Video Transcript for What to Know About the 2" Hitch Ball

Brad Hello, neighbors, it's Brad here at etrailer, and today we're taking a look at the Draw-Tite two inch ball. Now this is a 3/4 inch diameter and the shank length is gonna be 1 9/16. This is gonna be a Class I and Class II ball, so it's gonna be great for towing some smaller trailers. Now this ball is a 3,500 gross trailer weight rating, and this is gonna be great for your Class I and II, so smaller cars and vehicles can be able to tow this, especially if you have an inch and 1/4 hitch. Now this can fit on ball mounts that are anywhere from 3/8 to 5/8 inch thick. Now this ball is rated at 3,500 pounds, which is gonna be great for a teardrop trailer just like this, but it's one part of many parts of towing components that you need to make sure is up to that number to make sure it's safe.

So not only should your ball match that weight, but also the ball mount as well as the hitch and the vehicle itself. So it's important to check all those numbers and take the lowest number of all those just to be safe. And that way you're not trying to tow something that's heavier than your components. So installation of the ball on the ball mount is obviously pretty simple. Now included with the ball is gonna be the nut as well as the split washer here.

And also you'll see these flat spots here on the top part here on the ball, and that's gonna be great. You can put a wrench there as you torque this to spec. Now you're gonna want to follow the manufacturer's recommendations for torque specs to make sure that this is tight enough, but also not too tight. And you're gonna need to use a torque wrench to achieve that. If you don't have a torque wrench, we have those here at etrailer.

You can also generally rent those in an auto parts store, but make sure that you torque this down properly and that way, you're towing safely. And this is steel construction, so it's obviously very strong. It also has a nice chrome finish, so this is gonna look really good for a long time. It pretty much won't scratch, it may get a little dings and dents, but overall, the lifetime of it, it's gonna look great. Now sometimes putting a little bit of grease on here when you're towing is also gonna prolong the life of this chrome looking good.

And that was a look at the Draw-Tite two inch ball, and that's with the 3/4 inch diameter by 1 9/16 shank..

  • Can I Tow My Geo Pro 15TB Travel Trailer With My 2018 Volvo XC60
I can get you setup to tow your travel trailer with your 2018 Volvo XC60. The answer to your first question is no, you cannot use a hitch receiver adapter to tow. I did check your owner's manual and your vehicle is rated to tow up to 3,500 lbs with a brake controller. (3,280 lbs if you will be towing 1,000m or higher, above sea level.) As a result, you should not have any problems towing the Geo Pro 15TB travel trailer. In order to tow your travel trailer you will need a hitch and a ball...

  • Recommended Hitch for a 2024 Honda Accord
To add a hitch to your 2024 Honda Accord, I recommend the Draw-Tite item # DT86PR. This hitch is custom fit and bolts to your Honda with included hardware. It is a class I hitch with a 1-1/4" receiver that has a 2,000 lbs towing capacity and a 200 lbs maximum tongue weight. If you are planning on towing you will also need a wiring harness item # 118776 and the Draw-Tite Drawbar item # 3593 and then for hitch balls item # 19258 for a 2 inch ball or item # 19256 for a 1-7/8 inch ball.

  • Trailer Hitch, Accessories, and Wiring for a 2006 Suzuki Forenza
Curt trailer hitch # C11481 will fit a 2004 to 2008 Suzuki Forenza so it will also fit your 2006. If you plan on doing any towing with this vehicle be sure to consult the owners manual to make sure it can tow and to determine the vehicle capacity. The correct ball mount is # C45521 and you can use pin and clip # PC2. For a 1-7/8 inch ball use # 19256 and for a 2 inch ball use # 19258. For trailer wiring use # 119178KIT. I have linked instructions for the wiring and the hitch for you.

  • Trailer Hitch Recommendation for a 2012 Chrysler 200 Convertible
There is a confirmed fit for a 2012 Chrysler 200 convertible and it is Curt Hitch # C11133. The Draw-Tite hitch is not yet a confirmed fit. The Curt hitch comes with the correct ball mount, hitch pin, and clip. For a ball you can use # 19256 for 1-7/8 inch diameter or # 19258 for a 2 inch diameter. For trailer wiring, use the Vehicle Wiring Harness, # C56211. I have included a link to the installation instructions for the hitch and for the wiring harness for you.

  • Trailer Hitch Fit for a 2020 Toyota Corolla
We actually do have a trailer hitch for your 2020 Toyota Corolla Sedan! It is the Class I Draw-Tite Sportframe Trailer Hitch Receiver # 24983 and it has a 1-1/4" hitch receiver. You did refer to this as a tow hitch so if you planned on using this trailer hitch for towing you also need some wiring and a ball mount kit. I recommend the Tekonsha T-One # 118810 for wiring because of how reliable it is and that it bypasses your OEM wiring so you know your vehicle is protected. For a ball mount...

  • Recommended Ball Mount for a 2010 Toyota RAV4 With Factory Towing Package
For your 2010 Toyota RAV4 Factory Hitch, you'll want about a 3 inch rise. You can confirm this by measuring from the ground to the top of the trailer hitch, and measuring from the ground to the bottom of the coupler. Then, subtract the higher number from the lower number. It does sound like you've gotten this about right though. If yours is a 1-1/4 inch hitch, I recommend the Draw-Tite Drawbar, part # 36063. This will give you a correct, 3 inch rise with a 3/4 inch ball hole diameter....

  • Trailer Hitch and Wiring for a 2012 Toyota Camry to Move a 370 Pound Scooter
I do have a solution for you but using just a hitch-mounted carrier will not work. In order to carry a scooter on a trailer hitch mounted carrier both the trailer hitch and the vehicle would have to have a tongue weight capacity greater than the combined weight of the scooter and the carrier. If you look at the instructions for Curt hitch # 12228 which I have linked for you, the bolt size used is M12-1.25 x 30mm. This is a 12mm bolt. This is the size that fits the factory weld nuts on the 2010 Toyota Matrix. Sometimes the weld nuts can get packed with grime or corrosion and it will seem like the bolts are too large to fit. • Trailer Hitch Recommendation for a 2015 Ford Fusion
Long story short you would need a trailer to transport a heavy duty power scooter with a 2015 Ford Fusion. The highest rated hitch we offer for your vehicle is the Curt part # C12091 that has a 350 lb tongue weight rating which doesn't sound like it would be enough when you consider the weight of the carrier as well. All of the hitch receivers offered for your 2003 Honda Accord are the 1-1/4-inch size and rated as Class I hitches. Class I hitches are considered suitable for light-duty use, such as with 2-bike racks, small cargo baskets and for light towing applications. The 142-lb Out-Sider ASL-250 Platform Lift is intended for use with 2-inch Class II or Class III receivers and so is not compatible with the 1-1/4-inch Class I hitches available for your Accord.
