Question:
1998 4 runner v6 - what wiring harness do i need?

Expert Reply:
The 4-pole trailer wiring harness kit I recommend for your 1998 Toyota 4Runner V6 is the Tekonsha harness # 118341. We have found that their wiring products are the most reliable.
The harness plugs in at your taillight connectors and apart from that requires only a ground wire ring terminal be installed.
If you wish to convert these basic lighting signals to the 7-way connector format you can add adapter # 37185. But if you wish to have a fully-functioning 7-way with the three additional circuits for 12V power, reverse lights and trailer brakes then instead you will want kit # ETBC7.
This includes the # 37185 socket along with the other components needed to have a fully-functioning 7-way. An install video and article are linked for you.
