Recommendation For Short Bed With Gooseneck Trailer
Updated 04/25/2018 | Published 04/24/2018 >
Question:
I have a smaller 5th wheel that I had converted to a gooseneck years ago. I hauled it with a Tundra on basically flat or rolling hills. Fast forward, I have to buy a new truck and feel confident the F150 or something comparable will do the job but finding a 6.5 bed has proved impossible. Other than removing the gooseneck connection from my 5th wheel and then buying a sliding 5th wheel connector is there anything you can recommend for a short bed for a gooseneck?

The B&W Extend-A-Goose Gooseneck Coupler # BWTEXA4200 is designed to give you 10" of clearance so you can complete turns safely in a short bed truck (see diagram). The handle on this unit will easily hook up to the ball and also it is lockable. It is designed to fit onto a standard 2 and 5/16 diameter gooseneck ball.
Other than getting a sliding hitch the coupler is your best option.
I added a product video that describes the operation of # BWTEXA4200
I have added a link to our article on the Guide to Choosing the Best Truck for 5th-Wheel Towing that maybe helpful to you.
