Can Gen-Y Torsion Weight Distribution Shank be Used with Husky WD System
Updated 03/21/2018 | Published 03/20/2018 >
Question:
I am upgrading my travel trailer to one with just over 1000 hitch weight, I also carry a SXS in the bed of the truck with the back of the machine behind the rear wheels of the truck. I currently have an extended 12 shank with the Husky trunnion WD with 800-1400 updated trunnion bars. see pic With the Gen Y shank work with my WD head assembly? or is this over kill? My current tow vehicle is Ram 2500 quad cab, short bed with 6.7 cummings. I already have the timbren SES for the rear suspension. Thank you,

The Gen-Y Torsion Weight Distribution Shank # 325-GH-1302 referenced in your question can be used with your existing Husky Weight Distribution System, as it is compatible with any standard system like this one. The heavy-duty rubber torsion flex cords will do definitely great job of reducing or eliminating shock transfer and bounce, which will offer great benefit considering the type of load you are hauling. From the center of the hitch pin hole on the shank, to the center of the adjustment holes, there is a distance of 12-1/8 inches. You will just want to make sure this gives you enough clearance for your trailer.
One thing to keep in mind, since you will already have a lot of tongue weight with both the SXS and trailer, is that the shank weighs about 110 pounds by itself. So this will only be adding to the total tongue weight of your setup. Since both the trailer's loaded tongue weight and any added weight coming from behind the truck's rear axle will need to be factored in, I recommend making sure that your existing Husky system is rated properly.
