Question:

Thanks for your recommendation. It looks like what I may need. Your caution raises a question. First, any advice regarding support chains going back to the sides like some of the truss models have? I can see that a longer tongue may tend to have some sway from side to side.

As long as you have a 2-1/2 inch hitch installed on your 2017 Ford F-350 we have the Curt hitch extension part # C45048 which is 34 inches long like what you said you'd need. It has a 4,500 lb trailer capacity though so you'll need to keep that in mind.

You will need to attach chains from the trailer to the chain loops on the extension and then on to the trailer hitch on your truck. The two eyes on the top of the extension are for safety chains. DOT regulations require that you extend the safety chains on your trailer so that it is attached directly to the vehicle, these loops should be utilized to keep the new longer safety chains from dragging the ground. Many people elect to add an extension to their existing safety chains, so that they can remove the extension for towing the trailer when the extension is not used. For this application, I would recommend using two quick links, # C82932 or # 6590-044-04, and two of the 35 inch Long Safety Chains, # 1483-535-04. We've yet to hear about an extender like this causing sway.
