Installation Details Of Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C11497 On 2007 Subaru Impreza WRX STI

Question:
For my 2007 Impreza WRX STI Limited, can you please explain in more detail this process: You will also need to trim the rear bumper fascia, approximately a 1/2 inch x 1/2 inch area, to provide clearance for the driver side mounting plate. Does that mean I have to cut away a piece of my bumper? Will that modification be visible from the outside of the car? And what is a mounting plate? Thanks.

I contacted our representative at Curt about installing the Curt Trailer Hitch, part # C11497, on your 2007 Subaru Impreza WRX STI. He informed me that there will be minimal trimming on your rear bumper fascia at the very bottom approximately 1/2 inch by 1/2 area, possibly less. Since the trimming will be at the very bottom of the bumper fascia, it should not be very noticeable.
To trim the bumper fascia, you could use a utility knife, tin snips or a dremel tool.
This trimming is to allow for the mounting plate to clear the bumper fascia. The mounting plate, refers to the part of the hitch that actually bolts up to the frame of your vehicle (see picture).
I have linked instructions for the Curt Curt Trailer Hitch, part # C11497, and an FAQ on trailer hitch installation tips. I have also linked a picture of the Curt Hitch installed on a Subaru WRX.
