if you have a 2 inch thick deck do you need a backer plate for the brophy d-ring tie down?

A backing plate isn't necessarily required when installing the Brophy D-Ring Tie Down Anchor # RR05, but it will add additional support.
I recommend going ahead and installing a backing plate for peace of mind and to be extra safe. The backing plate that you will need is listed as part # BP05 on our site.
