Question:

Can I mount the Thule Insta-Gater on my tacoma tonneau cover by placing the retention straps between the bed rail and the tonneau cover? I am hoping I could mount it again the forward end of the bed.

I have a solution for you, but The Thule Insta-Gater, part # TH93VR is only intended to be used with the tailgate of your Toyota Tacoma, and should not be installed anywhere else on your vehicle.

If you have a quick release front wheel on your bike, you can use a SeaSucker Talon, part # 298-BT1004 to mount the bike to the roof of your cab or on a smooth, solid plastic tonneau cover. The Talon uses a unique vacuum cup system to mount to any smooth surface and lets you quickly dismount the bike as you need, and throw the rack inside your vehicle with no need for a roof rack or other carrier.

For both of these, I recommend getting a cable lock part # e98891 to mount to any solid mounting point on your vehicle, or purchase the window mounted point, part # 298-BA0010 to provide added security to your rack.
