Installing the Reese Revolution Custom Wedge # 30850

Question:

I have installed a custom wedge #30850 for use with with my Reese Revolution. The problem is that when installed per instructions, with no clearance between the wedge and pin box, if the revolution is not EXACTLY lined up it will not lock in. Even the slightest angle will cause a problem. Will it cause any problems if i leave 1/4inch clearance between the wedge and pin box? This would allow for a small amount of tolerance when backing in......Thanks,

I spoke with my contact and he said if you followed the directions and didn't over-torque the bolts then you can try applying White Lithium Grease # L11354 to the sides of the Reese Wedge # 30850 and the king pin for an easier hookup. Otherwise if you tightened the bolt too tight then it might be okay to back it off for 1/4 inch clearance.

Keep in mind that the best way to install it is to hook your trailer with the Sidewinder up to your truck (backing straight up) and then lighlty tap the wedge into place with a hammer. You will then want to uncouple the trailer and torque the bolts down to 150 lbs-ft as specified in the instructions.

Also, in the instructions at the bottom it mentions that you will want to back straight into the Sidewinder.
