What Hitch and Cargo Carriers are Recommended for a 2009 Lincoln MKX?

Hi, I have a 2009 Lincoln MKX and want to add a hitch mounted cargo carrier. I need both the hitch and the cargo carrier, and a tail light attachment. The use is for extra space for camping and vacation gear in order to leave room inside vehicle for children and dogs. What products would you recommend?

We can get you set up so you'll have plenty of room inside your 2009 Lincoln MKX for your kids and dogs. The first thing you'll need is a hitch, the Draw-Tite # 75992, which is Class III-rated and has a 2" x 2" receiver opening.
You have a couple of options in terms of cargo carriers, but for overall ease of use, I recommend the Yakima EXO Swing Away Enclosed Cargo Carrier - 2" Hitches # Y62VR. It has 10 cubic feet of cargo space with a weight capacity of 100 lbs. The best feature is that it swings away from your vehicle to give you full access to your cargo area. This Yakima EXO carrier includes wiring for lights, and you can add lights with the part # Y74VR which also offers a place to attach your license plate with a license plate light. It has locks for the carrier and a lock to hold the carrier to the system, and a locking anti-rattle hitch pin. Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock for 2" Hitches - 3-1/2" Span # 63232. A more economical option would be the Pro Series Cargo Carrier, # 63153. This is a basket-style carrier with a weight capacity of 500 lbs, inside dimensions of 60" long x 24" wide x 5-1/2" tall, and cutouts to install the light kit, # 20174, should your cargo impede your Lincoln's tail lights. The carrier will also need a pin and clip, # PC3, to secure it to your MKX. The most popular cargo bag we offer is the etrailer Cargo Bag, # 988501, which is going to give you 20 cubic feet of storage space and has six tie-down straps with buckles to keep it in place.
