The Curt Trailer Hitch, # C11174, for the 2000 BMW 3 Series, has a tongue weight capacity of 200 pounds and would not be able to hold the weight of a motorcycle rack and motorcycle. If using a hitch-mounted rack, the tongue weight would be the combined weight of the motorcycle and the rack. All of the available hitches for your vehicle are Class I, 1-1/4 inch trailer hitches with 200 pound tongue weight capacities and 2,000 pound gross trailer weight capacities.

However, the tongue weight will be significantly less if you were to put the motorcycle on a small trailer and tow it. This would also be the safest method of transporting the bike because a trailer would be more stable. If you do not want to buy a trailer, there are always plenty of places that can rent them.

To tow with the Curt hitch, you will also need a properly sized ball (the hitch comes with the recommended ball mount, pin, and clip). You can use ball # 19256 (1-7/8 inch diameter) or # 19258 (2 inch diameter). For trailer wiring, you will need 4 Pole Harness, # C59496.
