Need a key but dont have model # or mfg date, lock # 2872. If I cant get a replacement key, how can I change out the whole lock assembly with the cargo in a lock position?

The Sears X-Cargo rooftop cargo boxes were made by Thule so their replacement keys will work for you. For a key for lock number 2872 you can use part # THKEYN2872. This will work if the lock resembles your current one.
