Will a 225/75-15 Trailer Tire Fit in Place of a 205/75-15 Trailer Tire

Question:

i have a 98 us cargo enclosed 24ft. trailer w/ 205/75r15- 5 on 4 bolt 1/2 pattern 0n 3500 lb. axles.also has fiber fenders i need to know if the 225/75r15 tires will fit the trailer encasement? i dont want to order this if they wont.

In order to determine if you can go to a larger tire size you have to look at the available space all around the existing tires. The tire size you have now, 205/75-15, has a diameter of 27.1 inches and a width of 8 inches.

The 225/75-15 trailer tire has a diameter of 28.31 inches and a width of 8.78 inches.

This means above the tires you would measure up approximately 0.65 inches (a little over 5/8). If there is still space to allow for the travel of the suspension, then the height will work.

The larger tires will also stick out approximately 3/8 of inch on each side of the tire. So, you will need more than 3/8 of an inch between the inner sidewall and any part of the trailer as well as more than 3/8 between the outer sidewall and any part of the trailer. Otherwise, the tire will rub.

If the measurements work out, then tire and wheel combo # TA86MR will fit.
