Question:
I am restoring a 1987 2 horse trailer, not sure about the parts that i am needing for the brakes, the brake spring kit # K71-362-00 for 10 x1 1/2 looks like the right one , but my brake shoes measure 2 1/4 ? every thing seems to be in good shape except for the springs and the magnets.

Since you are looking to replace spring and magnets, I recommend changing out the entire assembly. The magnets will get you almost half way to the cost of an entire new assembly. You might as well get all the new components you need and upgrade to a self adjusting brake assembly while you are at it so you don't need to do the routine adjustments to keep things functional. I recommeend the Electric Trailer Brake Kit - Self-Adjusting - 10" - Left and Right Hand Assemblies # AKEBRK-35-SA. This will be a 10x2-1/4 inch assembly for each side of your axle.
If you just want the magnets and springs, you can use the Replacement Magnet Kit for 10" Electric Trailer Brake Assemblies # AKBRKR-M10 and I've linked the page to the springs for 10 inch assemblies so you can see what is available to work with your current assemblies. There is one spring especially made for some 10x2-1/4 assemblies and it is the Replacement Shoe Return Spring for Hayes/ALKO 10" Electric Trailer Brakes # BP07-110. All the other options are on the linked page.
