Can I Safely Use the Thule T2 Pro XTR on a 2014 Honda Accord Sport With a 1-1/4 inch Trailer Hitch

Updated 05/01/2017 | Published 04/29/2017

Question:

I went to a local hitch dealer Hitch expert to have a curt hitch installed on my 2014 Honda Accord Sport to carry a Thule T2 Pro and he said that they could not install the hitch as it was not recommended to use a platform carrier on a unibody car frame? he said the 200lb tongue weight would not be enough if you hit a bump or pot hole it could bend the hitch or damage the attachment points. I only have 2 custom made cycles, a carbon road bike and MTB so only typically one depending on activity. Could you advise please as now i am somewhat confused.

I contacted both Thule and one of our hitch manufacturers, and neither of them have ever heard of this problem. The Thule T2 Pro XTB # TH23JV, or whichever T2 Pro that you have, will safely haul 2 bikes on your 2014 Honda Accord Sport with the Curt # C11681 trailer hitch receiver.

Since the XTR weighs 51 lbs and has a 100 lb capacity, as long as you stay within your capacity ranges you will be just fine. Keep in mind that this Curt hitch requires the use of a Support Strap # 18050 for non-trailer loads like a cargo carrier or bike rack per the warranty.
