Replacement Brakes, Bearings & Seals for AL-KO 4400-lb Axles on 5-Year-Old Tandem Axle RV

Updated 04/10/2017 | Published 04/08/2017

Question:

Have a 5 year old RV that has dual Alko T-44 4,400lb Axles. I wish to replace the brake assemblies versus replacing the pads, magnets, etc. In addition to the recommended assemblies K23-478-00 and K23-479-00 what other hardware do I need or do you recommend I replace while having this apart? Im mechanical, but have never worked on RV axles before and want to ensure I have all parts and do this job right!

The # K23-478-00 and # K23-479-00 Dexter brake assemblies you mentioned are not compatible with your AL-KO T-44 axle.

According to my contact at Dexter (AL-KO was acquired by them), the replacement brake assemblies for your AL-KO axle are now obsolete as they have been discontinued.

The only option is to replace the axles on your RV. Since we don't carry any 4,400 lb axles, the closest rated axle we have (that would also match the 6 on 5-1/2 wheel bolt pattern found on the T-44 hubs) is a 5,200 lb axle. Depending on the hub face and spring center dimensions of your existing axle, we may have what you need. I have included the three available options below:

Dexter Trailer Axle w/ Electric Brakes - 95 inch hub face, 80 inch spring center # 6340624-EB
Dexter Trailer Axle w/ Electric Brakes - 86-1/2 inch hub face, 80 inch spring center # 8327816-EB
Dexter Trailer Axle w/ Electric Brakes - 89 inch hub face, 74 inch spring center # 8327820-EB
