Trailer Hitch Mount Bike Rack Will Not Slide All the Way in Receiver on 2014 Ford Focus Hatchback
Updated 02/23/2017 | Published 02/22/2017 >
Question:
I have a bike rack and it will not go in far enough to fit the bolt through. When I looked inside the tow bar, I notice there is a silver nub about 3/4 of the way in. What is this for? Can it be removed? I have a 2014 Ford Focus SE Hatchback

You have a Class I trailer hitch and what you are describing is a stop that was intentionally punched in the receiver of the hitch. It is there to prevent the use of Class II accessories that could lead to the hitch being overloaded. Your bike rack must be a Class II only 1-1/4 inch rack.
If you want to use a bike rack then you have to make sure it is rated for use with a Class I trailer hitch. Also, with a bike rack, you are limited to 2 bikes maximum on a Class I hitch. People do remove that stop though it voids the hitch warranty and is not recommended.
I have included a link to the Class I compatible 2-bike racks for you if you decide to go with a different rack. I like the Curt # C18085, because it is compatible with many different bike styles.
