Question:

Looking to tow a 91 Jeep behind and RV sometimes....and sometimes behind a Chevy 2500 truck. Looking at the BlueOx Avail. Can this tow bar be used on both the RV and Truck? Thanks for the help. The Jeep is a basic 1991 Jeep with the U-Chanel style bumper with a tow hook on the side in front of the grill.

For you to flat tow your 1991 Jeep Wrangler you will need base plate, tow bar, wiring kit, and a supplemental braking system.

For the base plates, I recommend the Blue Ox Base Plate Kit w/ Removable Arms , # BX1137. The Blue Ox base plate is custom-fit for the 1991 Jeep Wrangler with U-channel bumper. The removable tabs will allow your Jeep to maintain its OEM look when your not in tow.

The Blue Ox Avial Tow Bar, # BX7420, that you referenced will work perfectly with the Blue Ox base plates. The Avail has a 10,000 lbs capacity and includes the triple lug connection that make connecting and disconnecting a snap. The Blue Ox Avial tow bar will mount into a 2 x 2 inch trailer receiver hitch. As long as your motorhome and Chevy 2500 have a 2 inch trailer hitch, you can use the Blue Ox tow bar.

For a supplemental braking system, I like the Blue Ox Patriot # BLU37TR. This is a proportional braking system that senses the amount of braking the tow vehicle is exerting and will brake your Jeep accordingly. The Patriot is easy to install and remove and runs off a 12-volt accessory plug in the vehicle. If you do not have a accessory plug or a cigarette lighter, you can wire in a 12-volt accessory plug like # RM-9332. This 12-volt plug has the higher amp rating that is recommended when used in flat tow applications.

Finally, you will need to wire lighting to the Jeep to be activated by the towing vehicle. The easiest way to install lights on your Jeep is to use a tow bar lighting kit, like # RM-2120. This tow bar kit will mount to your Jeep's rear bumper and the wiring harness will run to the front of your Jeep to plug the 4-flat pole plug into your motor home or other towing vehicle. You might also need a 4-flat pole connector or adapter to 7-way for your Chevy truck. If you can tell me the year I will gladly help find a lighting kit if you need one.
