For your 2012 Volkswagen Passat TDI, I recommend the Draw-Tite Sportframe Trailer Hitch Receiver Class I - 1-1/4", # 24880. This is a well made custom-fit trailer hitch with black powder coat finish. It has a sturdy square tube design. With this hitch, I recommend the Draw-Tite Sportframe Drawbar 5/8" Rise 2000 lb Kit, # 3590. You will also need a 1-7/8 inch hitch ball like # 19256 or a 2 inch hitch ball like # 19258.

For your wiring needs, I recommend the Curt T-Connector Vehicle Wiring Harness with 4-Pole Flat Trailer Connector # C56374. This is a custom kit for your Passat. I've attached a video of this installation for you.
