Question:
Do I key the lock or do you need my 2012 Tundra Toyota key code if I purchase one? The factory installed Toyota hitch is a little wider than the standard as you probably already know. Receiver is 3inch wide.

Expert Reply:
The hitch on your 2012 Toyota Tundra uses a hitch pin the will work with the 2-1/2 inch receiver. Even though your receiver opening is 2 inches the pin will compensate for the extra width in the design of the Toyota OEM hitch.
The Master Lock Stainless Steel Trailer Hitch Lock, # 1469DAT, will work in the OEM hitch. However, this pin cannot be keyed to use your Toyota's ignition key.
The BOLT Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock for 2 and 2-1/2 Inch Hitches, # BL7023584, can use your Toyota's key to key the hitch lock the same as your ignition. Once you receive the pin you insert your key, turn the key once and then that lock will be permanently coded to that key.
Once keyed, the hitch pin lock cannot be changed to another vehicle. Furthermore, if your Toyota uses a center cut key, then the BOLT Hitch Pin will not be able to work on your Tundra. The BOLT locks are not designed to be used with a center cut keys. I have included a picture that will show the types of keys that will work with the BOLT Hitch Pin and an example of a center cut key.
