Brake Controller Power Wire Not Receiving Power On 2010 GMC Sierra With All Fuses and Connections

It sounds like you still need to make a few connections under the hood of your 2010 GMC Sierra. You will need to locate 2 wires, both wires are red/black with eyelets on the end. One wire is located between the fuse box and driver side fender, the other should be located under the brake master cylinder. On the driver side, remove the fuse box cover, there will be 2 threaded studs that are different sizes, the wires which have different sized eyelets will connect to the corresponding studs using M6 Nut, part # 185916, and M8 Nut, part # 185917.

There should be 4 wires coming out of the brake controller, Blue, Black, Red, and White. The Blue wire is the brake control output and sends power to the brakes. The Black wire is Power, White wire is ground, and Red wire is stoplight switch. There should be four or five blunt-cut wires under the dash that are bundled together and may be wrapped in tape, tucked up under steering column on left side. There should be a Red/Black wire, White wire, Light Blue/White wire, and Dark Blue, there may or may not be an Orange wire but the Orange wire is not needed to install a brake controller. There may also be a tag that outlines the wire functions.

You will splice the wires from the brake controller to the vehicle wires as follows: The Red/Black vehicle wire will connect to the Black wire on the brake controller. The White vehicle wire will connect to the White wire on the brake controller. The Light Blue/White vehicle wire will connect to Red wire on brake controller. The Dark Blue vehicle wire will connect to the Blue wire on the brake controller.

If you have a factory 7-way on your 2010 GMC Sierra then splicing the wires and making the necessary connections under the hood will complete your brake controller installation.

If you do not have a factory 7-way at the rear of your vehicle, you will need to install Twist-in, 7-Pole, RV-Style Trailer Connector, part # PK11916.
