Can Curt Weight Distribution Shank be Used with Reese Weight Distribution System

Question:

I am looking at a Curt 17120 shank, as it has just the right amount of for my application. I want to use it with e Reese WD System, however. Dimensionally, everything will fit and the shank rating is more than adequate, but I see on the QandA for this part number, one of your experts suggests staying with similar manufacturers. https://www.etrailer.com/question-23650.html I am not sure why this Curt shank would not be suitable for my Reese system. There is no suitable Reese shank with the current drop. Can you please explain the QandA response?

Some weight distribution shanks are specific to their manufacturer and cannot be used with a system it's not intended for. An example is the Reese # RP54970. To avoid running into a situation that does not fit for a specific application is why we recommend sticking with the same manufacturer if possible.

However, the Curt # 17120 that you are looking at is a standard design, and will work just fine with your Reese system.
