Question:
I have a 2014 Mustang with a Class II receiver. I am wanting to attach a Class III cargo carrier. Problem being, that due to the hitch being partially hidden, it seems that I need a class 2 to a class 3 extention and a riser. Otherwise the cargo carrier will be too close to the ground, and I need it out far enough, so that I can keep it off the car. Is there anything out there that can be purchased, or will I need to go to a welding shop and have them make it ?

We have the adapter you are looking for. It is the Brophy Hitch Adapter 1-1/4" to 2" Trailer Hitch Receiver, # HTAD. This adapter measures 7-1/4 inches from pin hole to pin hole. It has a 300 lb tongue weight limit, which needs to be considered in regards to your vehicle weight capacity, your hitch weight capacity, and the cargo carrier weight capacity. The lesser number of all of these is your max tongue weight rating.
I looked in your owners manual to try and assist and it varies based on where your car was made. The total capacity of your vehicle is listed on the tire sticker in your driver's door jamb. You will want to use their calculations in your owners manual to determine the vehicle capacity based on the load carrying and trailer towing sections of your owner's manual.
Using an adapter like this will reduce your trailer hitch's tongue weight capacity by 50%. This adapter requires 5/8" pin for 2" receiver # PC3 and 1/2" pin for 1-1/4" receiver # PC2.
If that reduction in weight capacity is too great, then I suggest using a cargo carrier designed for use with Class II trailer hitch receivers like the 20x48 Curt Cargo Carrier for 1-1/4" and 2" Hitches - Steel - 300 lbs, # C18110. This carrier has a measurement from center of hitch pin hole to beginning of rise of shank of 6-3/4 inches and 11-1/8 inches to closest edge of the carrier.
