Can Boat Trailer go From 13 inch Wheel and Tire to 14 inch to Increase Weight and Speed Rating

Published 10/13/2016

Question:

I would like to tow my B/M/T to Mi. from Fl. After learning the weight to load rating /speed recommendations etc Thanks to your fine site, I became a bit apprehensive. Is there a way to increase both? I was thinking you should smell it when Im thinking that I might be able to increase to a 14 inch tire and rim to afford a safer and more dependable journey. It appears that it should fit without removing the fender. First, is there such wheel assembly with the same bolt pattern available? Second, would it increase load ratings as I feel Im pushing limits as they fitted me with a small size trailer to allow my little rig to tightly fit into my Small Fl garage? Lastly, would it help? Tire size is ST175/80 D 13, load range C Boat is a Key West, 176 Sportsman, 90 HP, Suzuki

Generally speaking you will want to have 3 inches from the top of your tire to the fender of your trailer to accommodate for suspension travel. Having a little more wouldn't hurt, but I wouldn't recommend any less than 3 inches.

It looks like you have a bit of room to grow in the picture you sent in. Also looks like you have a 5 on 4-1/2 inch bolt pattern. Your current tire size of ST175/80D13 has an overall diameter of 24.1 inches. Going to a 205/75-14 tire will change the overall diameter to 26.3 inches which means you would have 1.1 inches less fender clearance.

If you can fit that, the part # TA82MR would be an excellent option. It has a weight capacity of 1,760-lb max load at 50 psi and a speed rating of 81 mph.
