Recommended Longer Weight Distribution Shank To Allow Door Clearance On 2016 Ford Transit

Updated 07/10/2024 | Published 10/11/2016

Question:

I have this shank, FA92-02-4100, on my Fastway e2 weight distribution hitch but the ball is too close to allow for opening the rear doors on my 2016 Ford Transit Wagon. I only need about an inch more clearance. What are my options?

I recommend the Curt weight Distribution Shank, part # C17122.

This shank measures 18 inches overall and 14-inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the attachment holes for the head. This shank has a 15,000-lb weight capacity and this shank has an overall height of 10-inches. I have attached a photo of this shank with the dimensions shown you can check out.

Another shank you may want to check out is the Curt # 17120. This shank has a 15,000-lb weight capacity and measures 10-inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the center of the adjustment holes.

HI, would a Reese 3214 weight distributing shank work for this same situation (need a longer shank for clearance)?

@LoniG Yes, the Reese Weight Dist Shank # RP3214 would also be compatible as long as you only need the 6 bolt locations for the hitch head.

@JonG I've been looking an looking for one but can't find one. Do you guys have any? I wish the Curt went both up and down, but it would also work with the Fastway e2 Weight Distribution Systems - Round Bar, right? Thanks!

@JonG - the link above - the 3214 should be an overall 14" length. This one is too short for what I need.
