Question:
I just had a question answered by Jason S about using the Hollywood HRF2 or HRF2-3 Over the top bike rack for my Audi 2014 Q5 with a spoiler. I want to confirm that I understand his reply. Are you saying that the manufacturer claims that the rear hatch can not be opened when the bike rack is mounted EVEN if the bikes are NOT on the rack? That seems really inconvenient. I may need to rethink using a trailer hitch arrangement. thanks,

The manufacturer is saying that even without bikes installed on the rack, you cannot open your hatch cargo area door while the rack is mounted to your vehicle. The rack would have to be completely removed to open the hatch door.
If you are interested in a hitch mounted bike rack, I can give you a recommendation. As long as your 2014 Audi Q5 isn't a hybrid, I'd suggest the Curt Class III Hitch Receiver, # C13136. This is a bolt on hitch that has the 2 inch receiver opening that would give you the most options for a bike carrier.
For easiest access to your rear hatch, I'd recommend getting a swinging bike rack like the
Yakima FullSwing 4 Bike Rack - 2" Hitches - Swinging # Y02465. This type of bike rack will allow you access to your cargo area even with bikes loaded. I've included a video to show you how versatile this style bike rack is. This rack comes with the hitch lock and integrated cable lock to deter theft of the rack and the bikes.
Another option that would give you access to the hatch is with the tilting away style bike rack. The Thule Hitching Post Pro, # TH934XTR is a very popular model. Without bikes attached, this rack will allow you to easily fold the dual arms down and then tilt the mast to allow access to your rear cargo area. I have a video of this rack being installed on an Audi Q5.
I would still suggest a cable lock like # e98891 to secure your bikes to whatever rack you choose if it does not have an integrated lock.
With any hanging bike rack, it is a good idea to use a frame adapter like the Swagman Deluxe Bike Frame Adapter, # 64005, for any children's, step through, or alternative mountain bike frames. It creates a level top rail by connecting between the handle bars and the seat post.
I've attached a link to the original question for your convenience.
