Question:
I have a flatbed and a cargo trailer both have a gross weight of 7000 pounds. I use them for different purposes and always have differing weights. Should I get an 8,000 pound which works based on a 10 tongue weight or a 10,000 pound based on a 15 tongue weight. My 2016 F150 can tow up to about 11,500.

To choose a weight distribution system you will need to go by the total tongue weight of the set up. This is calculated by taking the tongue weight of the trailer, when loaded and ready to tow, and adding to that the weight of anything loaded behind the rear axle of the tow vehicle.
If the gross weight of each trailer is 7,000 pounds that would put the tongue weight range at 700 to 1,050 pounds. Based on that I recommend going with the 1,000 pound system # C17052 over an 800 pound system. For a compatible 2-5/16 inch ball use # C40030.
