Question:

Hi, I just installed an eTrailer Hidden Hitch, Class III on my 2011 Nissan Murano. The Murano hitch height from ground is 15-1/4inch to top of opening, while the Viking 2107 trailer is 14-1/4, indicating I would need a ball mount with a 1inch drop. I would like to use the Curt D210 Curt Multipurpose Ball Mount for additional bike rack. The D210 shows a 2-1/4inch drop, so I would need a 1inch high rise ball to come back up to approx my original 1inch drop requirement My question is, should I order the C40033 1inch High Rise Ball or C40034 2inch High Rise Ball given the sag factor once the hitch attaches to Murano? Ive read its preferable to have trailer error on the high side of level vs. lower than level in relation to tow vehicle, indicating the 2inch high rise ball would be preferable. Also, I would need a pin for the D210? Finally, any info you have on this towing combo would be appreciated Viking 2107 weight, ideal tongue weight, Murano capabilities with Viking and 2-3 bikes+rack, etc.

It really depends on what the tongue weight is going to be once the trailer is loaded and you have the accessory in the # D210 ball mount and loaded. Given that using the receiver part of the D210 means you are adding tongue weight going with the 2 inch high rise ball, # C40034, is going to be the better option.

The D210 ball mount has 2 hitch pin holes; one at the shank and one at the accessory receiver. It takes a 5/8 inch pin such as # PC3 for a regular pin or # 7683 for a locking pin.

I checked the owner's manual for the 2011 Nissan Murano and found that it has a towing capacity of 3,500 pounds gross trailer weight and 350 pounds tongue weight. The tongue weight of your set up would be the combined weight of the trailer's tongue weight when loaded and ready to tow plus the weight of the bike rack and bikes.

The Viking 2107 camping trailer was made from 1998 to 2017 the weights of these models varies so I would need to know the specific year but it looks like that the tongue weight range is between 160 pounds up to 280 pounds dry (nothing loaded including propane or other things on the tongue).

But it does seem like the 350 pound capacity of the vehicle will be enough for the tongue weight of the trailer plus the bike rack and bikes.
