Recommended Grease for E-Z Lube Spindles on Travel Trailer

Question:

I have a Travel trailer K-Z SPortsman with Dexter E-Z Lube axles. With E-Z Lube axles you simply add grease via the lube nipple, you dont need to disassemble anything. So given that, which type of grease should I be using in my gun? My understanding is that its important to match the new grease with the existing one. Even though I will try to push as much of the old grease out via the E-Z lube nipple, most likely there will be some residual mixed with the new. Thanks much!

If you do not know what type of grease is currently in the hubs of your K-Z Sportsman travel trailer your best option is to pull the hubs and remove all of the grease that is in there now. This will avoid concerns about the compatibility issues. It will also give you a chance to inspect your bearings, races and seals too.

The linked article covers grease types in detail and explains which types can be used together. For instance, if you have a petroleum-based grease in there now you can use that type again or replace it with a bio-based type since these are cross-compatible.

For a camper trailer we prefer using LMX red grease # L11390. This handles high pressure and temperature extremes and won't break down if exposed to water.
