Choosing Replacement Double-Eye Leaf Springs for StartCraft Pop-Up Trailer
Updated 04/29/2016 | Published 04/25/2016 >
Question:
Hi, Im looking for replacement springs for my Starcraft 10RT pop up trailer. The existing springs are 1. 3 leaf 2. 1 3/4-inch width 3. 26-inches eye to eye. may be sagging somewhat though as they are nearly 10 years old, 4. Axle reads 4000 lbs capacity, and its 3inch dia 5. Manual reads GVWR-2820 lbs Is this enough information for you to recommend replacement springs? I broke a spring on rough roads so would consider upgrading to a stronger spring if you would recommend doing so. Thank you.

You can change out your springs to higher-rated ones but that will not increase the trailer's weight carrying capacity. It will likely give you a stiffer ride, which you may or may not prefer. Chances are good that your trailer spring broke because it was 10-years old and brittle. You'll want to replace both springs to ensure the trailer tracks correctly.
We do offer a 6-leaf 26-inch spring rated for 4500-lb axles, part # e27SR, but as you noted your springs have probably become elongated from years of use, so the spring that today measures 26-inches eye to eye may actually have been a 25-1/4-inch spring. This is a 3-leaf spring rated for 3500-lb axles.
I suggest you check with StarCraft using your pop-up's VIN to confirm the recommended spring capacity for your camper. They may also be able to tell you whether there would be any benefit from switching to higher-rated springs on your particular trailer.
