Selecting Replacement 4-on-4 Hubs for Tag Along Trailer

Updated 03/09/2016 | Published 03/07/2016

Question:

I am trying to find replacement hubs for my Harbor Freight Tag Along trailer. It is a 4 on 4 pattern and I guess the spindle is a metric spindle. Do you know of a specific hub that will fit? Is it possible to use metric bearings on standard bearing races? Thanks.

You can select replacement 4-on-4 hubs for your trailer by determining the bearings used in your original hubs. The linked photo shows the typical appearance of bearing part numbers. You can pull one of your hubs, remove its bearings and note those inner and outer bearing part numbers.

The 4-on-4 hubs we offer include both idler hubs and hub/drum assemblies for brakes. You can see all on the linked page. Click on the type you need.

Note that all of these hubs use either of two inner and outer bearings. The inner and outer bearings for these will be either # L44643 or # L44649.

If your bearings do not have part numbers you'll need to measure your spindle and hub bore to the nearest thousandth - like 1.234-inches - using a digital caliper like # PTW80157. Measure the spindles at the points where the bearings ride (C and D in the diagram); this will tell you their inner diameter. Measure the inside bore of the back side of the hub to find the bearing outer diameter.

Then you can use the linked page to check for bearings with those dimensions.

Often with "bargain" trailers it can be tough to find replacement parts and you may need to contact the manufacturer if we do not have hubs with the same bearings.
