Question:
What is the difference for the rack and post for the rack and gear jacks? How is it different from the a frame type, the bolt on type and the weld on type?

If you are looking at a rack and post such as # BD018006 it is just a replacement for the post in a rack and gear jack.
A rack and gear jack such as # BD018161 works along with # BD018006. This one gets welded to the frame. Jack # BD169201 clamps to the frame, and one like # BD165411 bolts in as an A-Frame jack.
Unlike a typical jack that has a fixed nut inside and a screw that turns in it to raise/lower the inner leg, rack and gear jacks have the gear track fixed to the post and the head travels up and down the leg to raise/lower the trailer.
The rack and gear design allows the bottom of the jack to be retracted further than most other jacks. But the rack and gear jacks are also rated lower than the nut and screw type. I have included a link to the rack and gear jacks we carry.
