Gooseneck Tripod Stabilizer for 5th Wheel Trailer with Reese Goose Box Adapter

Updated 07/28/2025 | Published 12/30/2015

Question:

My Silverback 29RE is equipped with a Reese Goosebox, and I would like to find a stabilizer tripod that will support the pin weight. Can you make a recommendation? I am willing to modify a regular tripod if needed by welding a 2 5/16 ball to the top of the tripod. Would that work?

Since your 5th wheel trailer is using a Reese Goose Box 5th wheel to gooseneck adapter you will need to use a tripod stabilizer for gooseneck couplers such as # UF19-950450. This tripod is rated for 5,000 pounds pin weight and is height adjustable from 31 inches to 54 inches.

When using a tripod stabilizer with the Reese Goosebox, should you follow the "normal" procedure of keeping the hitch in the closed position and then rotating the ball up into the goose box? Or should the Goosebox be in the open position? Thank you, Al

@AllenA You'd want to have the coupler open to receive the ball of the tripod but you do not need to close it on the ball. If the trailer wanted to move at all the tripod wouldn't be able to hold the nose down of the trailer.
