Recommendation for Securing a 2016 Can-Am Maverick Max 1000R X RS to a Trailer

Question:

Is it common for customers to buy 4 of these? I have a 2016 Can-Am Maverick max 1000R X RS that is 64inch wide, a little over 12foot long, 6.5foot tall, and weighs about 1750lbs. I know that it is good to transport UTVs in this fashion rather than securing in a way that could load the suspension during transport. I just want to make sure this would work with my vehicle, also am open to other suggestions you may have. The trailer used for transporting this is 6x14foot with tie downs located every 2foot on the trailer floor 2inch from the perimeter. Was also thinking tire bonnets with a side mount might work too. Thanks for the help!

I can help you with transporting our UTV on your trailer.

First I was able to find out that your 2016 Can-Am Maverick Max has 28 inch tires and has a dry weight of 1,649lbs.

Frequently customers order more than two of the Pack'Em Wheel Tie-Downs # PK-WTD at a time. These are sold as a single wheel application and since they snug up right next to your tire you won't be taking up too much more space on your trailer. Since the straps are rated for 800 lbs. each and the dry weight of your 4X4 is more than 1,600lbs. then you would need more than just two. Plus you will get added security with the steel stops that double as wheel chocks. I have attached a video of these being installed on a trailer for your convenience.

You may also be interested in the Erickson # EM09160. This kit is a similar to the Pack'Em Kit # PK-WTD but the Erickson comes with a set of wheel chocks and straps for 2 wheels. The working load limit on these is 1,500lbs for the pair or 750lbs. each. One of the differences is that the Erickson will not include the installation hardware, which can be found locally at any hardware store.

There are two types of tire bonnets - the inline and the side mount. When using tire bonnets, it is recommended that the strap be mounted inline with the tire to get the best contact and hold. The side mount style may work for you since your tie-downs don't line up in front of and behind your tire. It would be important to check the weight rating of the tie down and strap before attempting this because of how heavy your Maverick is. Since neither of those factors are known, I would recommend you go with the Pack'Em Tie-Down Kit # PK-WTD which comes with the mounting hardware and allows you will be able to choose where they are located.
