Recommended Bike Rack for Toyota Camry That Allows Trunk Access

Hi, I have a 1.25inch hitch on my Toyota Camry. From various reviews the Thule 9027 will fit a 1.25inch hitch it sounds like it comes with an adapter that expands it for a 2inch hitch. So can I use it for a 1.25inch hitch? I read the online manual that says it does not work for a 1.25inch but in another place it says to use the adapter if using a 2inch hitch.inch So can I use it with a 1.25inch hitch? If weight is the problem, I actually only ever load two bikes at a time. Thank you.

The Thule # TH9027XT Apex Swing, along with the rest of the swinging bike racks we offer are only compatible with 2 inch hitches, not a 1-1/4 inch. Not to worry, though. We can come up with a solution that will allow you to carry bikes and have easy access to the trunk of your Camry.
An adapter isn't recommended, because it lowers the capacity of the hitch by half, and because it allows the hitch accessory to bounce around which can damage the hitch accessory, the hitch or the vehicle.
Is your hitch a Class I or a Class II? This information should be listed on an identification sticker on the hitch. If your hitch is a Class I, you'll be limited to carrying two bikes because of the very low capacity of the Class I hitch. In this instance, a Thule Apex XT 2 bike rack part # TH9024XT would be a good choice. Once the bikes are removed, the rack can be tilted rearward allowing full access to the trunk of your Camry.
If your Camry has a Class II hitch, you can carry up to 4 bikes due to the higher capacity of the hitch.
If you'll be transporting women's bikes or bikes with sharply-angled top tubes, you might also consider a frame adapter bar like part # 64005. The bar spans the distance between the handlebar gooseneck and the seat post, which provides a secondary attachment point for the bike rack. This allows the bike to be carried level, which maximizes ground clearance. I'll link you to a video showing how the adapter bar works.
