Question:
I have some questions about the Kuat Bata racks. I was wondering about the arm that attaches into the hitch opening. Is that also made of aluminum? I’ve order a hitch from etrailer, and it’s a 1 ¼ class 1. I’m wondering about the longevity of this rack. The 2” version might be stronger and hold up better in the long run. just my opinion What do you guys think? Do you think using an adaptor to covert a 1 ¼ to an 2” opening and then ordering the 2” version of this rack to be a good idea or unnecessary?

The shank on the Kuat Beta for 1-1/4 inch receivers, part # is constructed of steel, while the rest of the rack is constructed of aluminum. This gives the 1-1/4 inch model the same 80 lb weight capacity as the model for 2 inch receivers, part # B202-2.
I would consider any Kuat rack to be bullet-proof. You would be best served by going with the B202-114 model, because using an adapter will reduce the tongue weight capacity (maximum downward force that can be applied) of your receiver by 50 percent. Since the typical tongue weight capacity of a Class I receiver is 200 lbs, using the adapter would reduce that to 100 lbs. Using an adapter would also add to the overall length of the rack, extending it further rearward from the rear of the vehicle. The adapter would also allow more rattle and bounce, which could potentially damage the bikes.
Long story short, you would not be sacrificing any function or durability by choosing the rack that is designed to be used with the receiver on your Sonata, the B202-114 .
