Question:

Im building a tandom axel trailer and have 4 e33SR type springs. Which hangers should I buy? I have 4- 3 1/2inch frame to centerline of axel bolt I would like to use, so would need equalizer w/hanger. Or will I need a whole new kit? 3inch frame.

First, you will want to make sure you choose hangers that are designed for slipper springs. The width of the hanger should match the width of the leaf spring.

You could use the existing bolts, but hangers use different diameter bolts. It will be important to make sure the bolts you plan on using will fit in the hangers and springs. In addition to the 4 shackle bolts, you will also need 2 equalizer bolts and at least 4 spring keeper bolts.

Using a kit is the easiest way to make sure you have all the parts you need and that they will all fit together. If your springs are 2 inch slipper springs, I recommend the Tandem-Axle Trailer Hanger Kit # AP202-H202. This kit will provide you with 2 front hangers that are 4-1/2 inches tall, 2 center hangers that are 3-1/2 inches tall, 2 rear hangers that are 5-1/4 inches tall, 2 swan-shaped equalizers measuring 10-1/8 inches long, 4 spring keeper bolts with locknuts, 4 shackle bolts with locknuts, 2 wet equalizer bolts with locknuts. This kit is for tandem, 3,500 to 8,000 pound axles.

This style slipper spring is not very common. I spoke with my contact at our leaf spring manufacturer and he said it is okay to use either style equalizer with these slipper leaf springs.

I have attached a link to our help article on slipper springs for you.

If you will let me know the width of the slipper springs you plan on using, as well as the diameter of the existing bolts you would like to use, I can make a more accurate recommendation for you.
