Hitch Mounted Cargo Carrier Recommendation to Clear Past Folded Down Tailgate

Question:

I have a 2012 Nissan Frontier short bed and we are going on a trip. I have a bed extender and I was thinking about getting a Cargo Hitch mounted rack but would also like to have my tailgate down to make use of the bed extender. Are there any models that extend out past the truck far enough where this would work?

One of the longest hitch mounted cargo carriers we offer is the etrailer # e98874 which has a distance of 19-1/2 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the nearest edge of the carrier when folded down.

To determine how this carrier would work in relation to your tailgate being down you would need to lower your tailgate and then measure from the center of the hitch pin hole out to the furthest point out on the tailgate. If that distance is less than 19 inches the # e98874 would stick out far enough to clear your tailgate.
