Where is the trailer brake magnet located

The trailer brake magnet is located behind the wheel hub/drum assembly. You would need to remove your trailers wheel, then remove the spindle nut from the hub of your trailer, this would allow you to then remove the trailer's hub, and then at the bottom of the brake assembly there would be a magnet.

Great article. I have 2013 keystone cougar 1/2 ton with dual axels. It has the magnet plug purchase from etrailer. The trailer brakes would randomly stop working or start intermittently working. No rhyme or reason. Had the innards of the brake wiring changed by RV shop. Now, brakes randomly stop working when I slow down (as in pulling into town) after 2 plus hours of state road 55+ mph driving. Don’t know if RV place tested/changed magnets. If not, a prime suspect? What’s your part # Also, I’m thinking of just running a new wire from the box on the tongue to the axles. Where do I connect the brake wire at axle? The magnets? Another point? Any other ideas?? Thanks.

@Bill Intermittent trailer brake connection is almost always corrosion on the pins of the 7-way so I would first try sanding the pins of those connectors and see if that helps. Also try checking the wiring of the brake controller to your vehicle as that's the other common issue.

Your trailer brakes will still work with the assemblies mounted upside down where the magnet is above the spindle, but from the customers we know who have done this we have found that the stopping power won't be as strong as if they were mounted…
