Question:
My equinox has a 3500 lbs towing capacity. I am towing a 2800lbs trailer, i think it would be a good idea to get a transmission cooler. The dealer told me to just put in new cooler lines - will that do the trick or should i get a cooler? What are the things i should consider in ing a cooler? What are the options? Thanks

I am not sure what, if any, benefit new cooler lines would offer. But the right transmission cooler will do the trick. If your 2009 Chevy Equinox has the 3.4 liter engine, we have several options.
I recommend the Derale Transmission Cooler, # D12901. This has the simplest, tube fin design. It is fairly small so it should be easy to find the best mounting point.
There are essentially three places to mount a transmission cooler. The best place is between the grille and AC condenser core. The second best place is between the AC condenser and the radiator. The least efficient place is behind the radiator. If you must mount it in the last position, use a larger capacity cooler, like Derale # D13502.
Transmission coolers come with the necessary hardware to mount them. They have these long plastic pins, kind of like wire ties, that will go through the unit, the AC condenser core, radiator, etc, and clamp on the other side with a little button. Spacers are places between the unit and your vehicles components for protections. The system then plugs in line with your transmission system.
I have included a video showing installation of a transmission cooler and an FAQ article below.
