Question:

I have a brake control unit that doesn't have power. I can't locate the fuse that needs replacing. Can you tell me what fuse I should be looking for?

If your 2002 Chevrolet Silverado did not come wired with a 7-Way plug from the factory, you will need to connect the brake controller power wire and the electric brake wire underneath your hood to complete the brake controller installation.

Once you are under the hood, you would remove the bracket in the corner closest to the driver. Then, you would pull the top and lower covers off your fuse block.

You should see a red wire with a ring terminal, and a blue wire with a plug. Take the red wire and place the ring terminal over the closest positive post. You would put a 30amp fuse in the slot closest to this positive post.

To connect the blue wire, you would clip off the plug, and connect this wire to a wire that you have run to the electric brake wire coming off the back side of your vehicle connector. I would recommend using the white wire included in the jacketed 2 wire # 10-2-1.

If you find that the 7-Way connector also needs power run to the 12v power lead pin, you can run a wire underneath your hood to the other auxiliary power post near the fuse block. You would install a 20amp fuse in the slot closest to this power post.

If the second auxiliary power post is already in use, you could also just run the power lead wire to the positive battery terminal and install a 40amp circuit breaker, part # 9510 if needed. If you used the white wire from the # 10-2-1, you could use the black wire to run your power lead.

02 Silverado 2500I think Im on the right track ... Red wire with ring terminal - front post by trailer fuse Cut plug off blue wire and run a wire all the way to the rear of truck and connect to what exactly?

The blue wire under the hood is coming from the brake controller port under the dash. If you do not already have a 7-way connector on your truck, then you will want to run a wire from that blue wire all the way back to a 7-way trailer connector like part # 37185 and connect it to the 5 o'clock pin which powers the trailer's electric brakes.
