How to Adapt Timbren Rear-Axle Jounce Springs for Vehicles with 2-inches of Lift
Published 03/05/2015 >
Question:
I have a 2005 Ford Excursion 2 wheel drive that is stock height. I installed a Timbren system on the rear to improve towing and it has helped tremendously. However, Im planning to put an additional lift of 2inch on the rear as it rides low and it would help level it out when towing our camper. Is there a recommended Timbren shim or block to add to the top of the standard Timbren System so that the axle and Timbren cushion have the correct separation? Thanks

It is permissible to stack two 1-inch spacers # A25723-90AH00 to give you a total of 2-inches of height adjustment for your Timbren rear axle kit.
Rear axle jounce spring kits like those from Timbren are intended primarily for use with supporting cargo loads in the rear of a vehicle, more than for use when towing a trailer. A weight distribution (WD) hitch is a better option for vehicles that have rear-end sag when towing. Also, a jounce spring kit and a WD set up can tend to "fight" each other. Generally we do not recommend using a rear-axle jounce spring kit (nor air bags) along with a WD hitch.
Also, we do not recommend installing a lift kit in a truck that is going to be used for towing. It is always preferable to keep the center of gravity as low as possible and to keep the hitched trailer level with the ground. Lift kits can complicate things when you're trying to keep your trailer level.
