Question:

I have seen two different adapter types referenced for mounting a Surco Safari Rack to Thule crossbars. The SPT400 version seems to be very well designed, except that the U-bolts would not interface well with square style Thule Load Bars, specifically part LB65. I have also seen Thule part T400, but this part seems very undersized and I am unclear as to how it actually functions / secures the rack. Do you have any pictures of this adapter in use? I will be using the rack Surco 50 x 60 to transport a large 35inch spare tire above the bed of my truck, so i want to make certain the rack is firmly attached.

Surco Safari Rack 5.0 Rooftop Cargo Basket for Thule Roof Racks, # SPS5060-T400, will come with the correct mounting adapter for Thule square crossbars. The mounting adapter alone is # SPT400. Check out the image I attached and the video which both show how the mounting adapter interfaces or mounts to your Thule square crossbars.

T400 is actually the same part as # SPT400.
