Recommended Hitch Mounted Cargo Carrier For 2014 Subaru Outback Wagon

The folding hitch-mounted cargo carriers we offer are for Class lll or Class lV hitches. You will want to check your owner's manual or with your dealership to make sure you do not exceed the tongue weight capacity for your Outback. The tongue weight is the weight of the cargo you are carrying added to the weight of the cargo carrier you use.

One of the lighter cargo carriers we offer is the Curt Cargo Carrier, part # C18100. This aluminum carrier measures 19 X 60 inches and weighs just 29 lbs. When folded up the distance from the center of the hitch pin hole to the closest edge of the carrier is 5 inches. The carrier has a mesh floor that makes it easy to clean. The carrier has sides that measure 2-15/16 inches and has pre-drilled holes that can be used to tie down your cargo. For a steel folding carrier I recommend part # C18151. This carrier measures 60 inches long X 24 inches wide and features 5-1/2 inch side rails. The distance from the center of the hitch pin hole to the carrier rail when folded up is 6 inches. This carrier also features a mesh floor for easy cleanup as well. This carrier weighs 58 lbs. You will need a hitch pin and clip like part # PC3. To be able to secure the carrier in the hitch I recommend the trailer hitch receiver lock, part # e98880.

If you need something to hold the cargo down on the carrier I recommend the Erickson Bungee Cords, part # EM06623. This contains 12 bungee cords with assorted lengths.

You will want to take a simple measurement to make sure any item you place in your 2014 Subaru Outback Wagon trailer hitch will have enough clearance from the back of the vehicle.

You will need a tape measure and a straight edge like a yardstick or a dowel. Place the straight edge vertically against the back of the bumper, letting it extend below the trailer hitch receiver opening. Then measure from the center of the hitch pin to the straight edge. This will give you the distance you need to clear the bumper.
