Easy to install. Fits well on angle iron trailer frame. You might want to change the carriage bolt to fine thread. This will allow for a wheel locks to fit and lock the spare tire (1/2 x20) I'm trying to find some.

by:

Work great with my 13 inch tires and fit perfect on the trailer

Awesome. Pulled the trailer across the country and back. I had no problems.

by:

This spare tire mount was easy to install, amd keeps the tire from rubbing on the trailer frame. After a couple trips gave it an extra tighten and its been holding strong! Love this mount!Highly recommend!

by:

This tire mount is going to work real good on my trailer. Thank you john

Still on the trailer, working real good. Thank you, John.

by:

This is a solid piece of equipment. It mounted perfectly on my 5X8 tilt trailer. I attached it in front of the passenger side tire well, as close to the fender as possible, without actually touching it. This was because if I attached it nearer to the front of the trailer, the weight of the 13 inch spare tire would have interfered with the tilt. Now it will still tilt and stay in place (barely)... No actual need for torque wrench. Just tighten the main bolt on the angle rail until you see the lock washer flatten and become even with the bolt

by:

Seems sturdy. May tack weld it just to make sure. The reason for four stars, not five, are the two bolts that hold the wheel. They cannot be secured in place so you're left trying to hold the spare tire with a knee and one arm while trying to feed two out of position bolts through the holes in your wheel. They are carriage bolts, so then you need to hold them on the slot while you tighten the nuts. Doable in your shop with an impact and a deep socket but on the side of the road??

by:

Had an issue with the bolts and bracket for the wheel mount. The square part of the bolt that goes into the slot is too short and or the rectangle squared hole that those bolts go through is too big…. Very hard too tighten with the wheel on, keeps spinning.. Ended up getting New bolts with a better head for the holes. Maybe make just square holes for the carriage bolts instead of a slot. My bolt is on the left in picture, yours on the right.

Hi Pete, thank you for your feedback. I recommend making sure you are using the thread locker and torquing the m12 bolt down to 50 foot lbs.

by:

Makes good connection to angle I located near as possible to a vertical support to stiffen the cantilever. Torsion on angle iron for long term may result in fatigue…people with small angles should consider stiffening with vertical support

by:

I believe the product is of above-average quality and design. I had one small problem installing the spare tire; it wanted to fall off before I could get the nut(s) on to help keep it in place. Not sure where the washer with the lip was to be placed, behind the hanger, in front of the bolt head, or in front of that piece in front of the nut. But I did manage, even if I misplaced the washer.

I will have a better feel for its usefulness when I need to change a loaded trailer.

by:

Was looking for a spare tire holder for my trailer all the other ones wouldn't work on a angle iron so I looked up what was the best and this one pops up ordered it and received it in less time the was estimated. Simple to install on the trailer and works great !! Thanks etrailer!!

by:

Great spare tire bracket! My trailers angle iron was a little larger than any of the pictures provided, but I drilled a hole into the trailer to make it that much more durable. Very happy with this product and looks super clean too!

by:

The spare tire mount was a breeze to install and fit perfectly onto my angle iron trailer side. Everything worked as promised. Very happy with my purchase and would recommend this product to anyone with an angle iron trailer.

by:

When I was tightening the mount one of the 2 holding arms came off. They are welded but not very good. It says to tighten the nut to 60 foot pounds so I got out my trusty Snap On torque wrench and set it to 60 foot pounds. It never got to 60 before one of the holding arms fell off. Don't know if this was a one off defect or just poor manufacturing. What will happen while it is bouncing up and down the road?

I definitely understand your concerns about the spare tire carrier. We will reach out to you so that we can have it replaced for you.

by:

The tire mount does not set properly on the angle iron railing thus allowing the wheel to wobble. I definitely would not order this had I known.

by:

Seems sturdy but I didn't trust just the washer holding it on so I drilled a hole through the angle and cracked an out in an extra bolt with lock washer. I saw others had done the same thing

by:

It works perfect on a small utility trailer. It's built specifically for a light steel trailer, made of angle iron.

by:

It worked out great in the end, just a little more work than I anticipated. My load trail 7x12 utility trailer side angle was a little too long for the mounting bracket so I had to drill and through bolt the mounting bracket to get it to work . Actually I felt through bolting the bracket made it even more secure, so not a huge issue . Perhaps maybe make an inch or so longer mounting bracket to cover more trailer models without the need to drill to make it work.

by:

Kate kept check on my order and revieved in three days fast shipping. The Angle spare tire mount fit perfect on my trailer. Will order another one for my 10' trailer. Completely Satisfied!!

by:

Shipping was a no brainer and communication was awesome!

by:

Ideal spare tire carrier for a utility trailer with angle iron side rails. Easy installation and adjustable for any bolt pattern rim.

The only thing I would say is that I added a piece of 2 by 4 between the uprights on the trailer to eliminate the vibration for the cantilever design of the bracket. Problem solved.

by:

Wll made product and easy installation. The perfect application for my trailer.

by:

by:

I was so glad to find this mount. It came very well packaged, and it arrived very quickly. Very easy to install. I will keep this site for all my trailer needs. Thanks

by:

This is a great system for holding your spare tire. Keep in mind that it only fits angle iron up to 2 inches on each dimension. My trailer has 2x3 inch angle iron, so I had to drill a hole through the vertical part of the angle iron to mount the carrier. Still, it's great to have my spare up and out of the way.

by:

Perfect solution for angle iron mounting on my utility trailer. Was able to locate it directly above vertical upart of railing which gives it more stability. Fits my 5 on 5.5 bolt pattern, should be listed in the description. Only reasons for 4 instead of 5 stars is no way provided to keep wheel mounting bolts from falling out or moving around when trying to mount wheel, plus need for two wrenches to tighten the wheel nuts. I bought a couple of 7/16” lock washers with the teeth in them that thread on the bolts to keep bolts in and help keep them adjusted to correct width. Haven’t pulled trailer anywhere yet so don’t know how well everything will hold up.

  • Could Locking Lug Nut be Used to Lock Wheel to etrailer Spare Tire Carrier # e99045
The bolts that come with the etrailer Spare Tire Carrier for Trailer with Angle-Iron Railing # e99045 are M12 size bolts which you could use a locking lug nut designed for that size with. Since that size is pretty rare a better option might be the part # e98892.

  • Recommended Spare Tire Carrier for a 5 on 5 1/2 Tire
Hey Bill, unfortunately the etrailer Spare Tire Mount for Trailer Tires with Angle-Iron Railing # e99045 is not going to work with a 5 on 5 1/2 bolt pattern. The only option we have would be to use the CE Smith Spare Tire Mount for Trailers # CE22007Z-11050-2. This carrier will work beautifully with your 5 on 5 1/2 bolt pattern, works with tires up to 15" wide, and will work with trailer tongues up to 3" wide. • Is The etrailer Spare Tire Mount A Good Quality Mount?
Hey Steven, The etrailer Spare Tire Mount is a high quality steel construction tire mount. The mount is torqued down 60 foot lbs onto the trailer to ensure a secure attachment for your spare. I do recommend using Loctite onto those bolts just for some added security. It is always a good idea to check and re-tighten the bolts holding the spare after any trip. That is the case with most spare tire carriers out there, but the etrailer mount is a great quality mount. What size tires do you...
