Firestone Ride-Rite Air Spring Basics

Firestone Ride-Rite springs are designed to increase safety and reduce the strain on your truck when you are hauling heavy loads or towing a heavy trailer. The springs partner with your existing rear suspension system to help keep your truck level, maintain even load distribution, and increase stability. Hauling heavy loads or towing a heavy trailer can make the rear of your truck sag and the front end rise. This puts more strain on your rear axle and reduces contact between your front tires and the road, causing problems with braking, steering control, and traction. By adding air springs to your rear suspension, you can help to level your truck and improve braking and handling. The air springs also help to level your headlight beams and reduce wear on your tires.

Adjustable Air Pressure

Firestone Ride-Rite air spring airline installation

The air pressure in the Ride-Rite springs can be adjusted manually, side to side, to compensate for off-center loads. A centered load improves the stability of your truck by reducing body roll. The air springs will also help to absorb road shock and soften contact between your axle and frame. This prevents bottoming out, thus improving ride comfort. Route the air line tubing for the springs to your truck's bumper to provide easy access to the manual inflation valves.

Air Spring Construction

Firestone Ride-Rite air spring components

Firestone's double-convoluted Ride-Rite air springs are designed to give you maximum load support and enhance the performance and ride comfort of your truck. The rubber springs provide cushioning between your suspension components and operate at up to 100 psi. The springs have four layers of reinforced rubber to ensure durability and enhance load support. A braided wire girdle creates the double-convoluted shape of each air spring, increasing the burst pressure of the spring. The rubber springs are attached to corrosion-resistant metal end plates with a time-proven, rolled crimp seal that keeps the bags securely anchored.

Air Spring Installation

Each Ride-Rite kit includes custom-fit brackets that connect to your axle and frame. The brackets provide the mounting points for the air springs. No drilling is required for installation.

  • Will Firestone F2582 Ride-Rite Air Helper Springs Change Ride Height of 2019 Ford F-150
At the 5psi minimum recommended by Firestone, installing their # F2582 Ride-Rite kit will not change your existing ride height, as long as your suspension isn't worn and is in good working order. If the suspension is worn, it could slightly raise the ride height. Also, you might need a lift spacer depending on how much lift has been added. If the lift is less than 1-1/2 inches, you won't need a lift spacer, according to Firestone. If the lift is greater than 1-1/2 inches, you will need...

  • Comparing SumoSprings, SuperSprings, RAS, and Air Bags for 2019 Ford F-150
The RoadActive Suspension (RAS) Custom Leaf Spring Enhancement Kit part # RAS3611-Y is what I recommend for a 2019 Ford F-150. The RAS Kit unlike the SumoSprings Solo Custom Helper Springs part # SSR-117-47 will engage right away so you don't have to reach a threshold before the support kicks. Therefore, they will do a better job of reducing sag/squat. In comparison to the SuperSprings Custom Suspension Stabilizer and Sway Control Kit part # SSA28, The RAS Kit can be adjusted and offers...

  • What is the Weight Capacity of the Brophy Clamp On Camper Tie-Downs Part # HSSF
According to Ford's towing guide, your 2015 Ford F-150 has a max payload capacity of 3,300 ft. lbs. Therefore, yes, you should have no trouble using the Travel-lite 770RSL with your truck. The Brophy Clamp On Camper Tie-Downs part # HSSF is a good option to secure the truck bed camper to your vehicle. I spoke to my contact at C.R. Brophy and they were able to confirm the compatibility with the Ford aluminum truck beds. There is no weight capacity rating on the camper tie downs and they...

  • Replacement Brackets for Firestone Air Helper Springs on 2015 Ford F-150
If one of the air spring brackets from the Firestone air spring system is bent on your Ford F-150, I definitely recommend replacing the bracket in question. They should not bend or lean as you mentioned your local dealer describing. If you have the Firestone Ride-Rite Air Helper Springs # F2582 installed on your truck, the replacement frame bracket on the driver's side will be part # F5804, and for the passenger side you will use part # F5805. If you are needing to replace the upper...

  • Will Roadmaster Active Suspension Raise the Back of 2018 Ford F-150
Installation of the RoadActive Suspension Custom Leaf Spring Enhancement Kit # RAS3611-Y on your 2018 Ford F-150 can raise the back end of the truck a little. According to RoadActive, it is likely you won't even notice but at most you are looking at about an inch. However, if your suspension is worn the lift may be more significant with the added support from the RAS system. If you have a 4WD model then the # RAS3611-Y is the correct kit for your truck. If you have the 2WD then you will...

  • Troubleshooting Compressor for Firestone Air Springs that Won't Shut Off
It sounds like there may be a wiring issue or blown fuse on your Firestone compressor system like the part # F2543. The compressor should only run when the vehicle ignition is on, and even then only if the tank needs air. Check to make sure there isn't a blown fuse that needs to be replaced or any exposed or pinched wiring that might be causing a short. You can also test the compressor by itself to see if it's faulty by connecting it directly to the battery through fused wire. If you...

For a set of airbags that will work with your 2015 Ford F-150, I recommend taking a look at the Firestone Ride-Rite Air Helper Springs part # F2582. The Ride-Rite airbags will maximize safe load carry capacity, increase stability, and improve overall ride quality. The air pressure is adjustable for each airbag therefore you can adjust the pressure to suite your needs. • RAS vs Air Bags for a 2020 Ford F-150 4x4
Hey Bill, I'd recommend going with the RAS RoadActive Suspension Custom Leaf Spring Enhancement Kit # RAS3611-Y. The ride quality on RAS systems are typically better than air bags and they're a lot simpler than bags. Also considering that you don't tow everyday, it doesn't seem worth it to invest in air bags for something you can also achieve with an RAS system. Please feel free to let me know below if you have any other questions!

The best choice of rear axle suspension kit for your 2018 F-150 will depend on the type of towing or hauling you're doing. All rear-axle kits for your 4WD F-150 appear on the linked page. If you are routinely hauling cargo loads of widely varying weight then an adjustable air bag setup will give you the ability to match the bag air pressure to suit each different load. Hey Lemonte, I did check out both the Firestone Ride-Rite Air Helper Springs # F2582 and the Firestone Ride-Rite Air Helper Springs # F2550 and there are not really any differences. Both springs have a max load leveling capacity of 5,000 lbs, an adjustable air pressure range of 5 to 100 PSI, and are made in the USA. A body lift does not affect towing since it's only the body of your vehicle that's being raised; the stock suspension and wheels remain at their original height. Hey Brian! Sorry but the Firestone Ride-Rite Air Helper Springs item # F2582 will not add any additional capacity to your 2020 Ford F-150. The 5,000 lbs is talking about supporting the load-carrying capacity not increasing it. This would be the tongue weight of your trailer and anything you're hauling in your bed. There's no air compressor included with these air bags. It has to be purchased separately. I recommend adding the Firestone Air Command item # F2610 to your truck. This onboard...

  • Why Would a Firestone Compressor System Continuously Fill Bags When Turned On
Darcy, that should not be happening. That to me sounds like there could be a relay switch that is stuck open causing the compressor to run continuously. It could also be a leak causing it to run all the time, or there could be a faulty pressure switch on the compressor. I'd suggest checking out your owner's manual to look for the relay that is connected to the compressor.
