Erickson Ratchet Straps - EM34416

Features:

  • Heavy-duty tie-downs let you secure cargo in your truck bed or trailer
  • Retractable straps automatically wind up into the built-in housings with the push of a button
    • Keeps excess strap from tangling or flapping in the wind
  • Ratchet mechanisms make it easy to tighten down straps and maintain tension on straps
    • Handles are easy to grip
  • Push buttons on ratchets quickly and easily release straps when you're ready to unload
  • Zinc-coated steel bodies are corrosion resistant
  • S-hooks have hardened steel cores to ensure that they won't bend or flex
  • Vinyl coating on S-hooks helps prevent scratches on your cargo
  • Strong polyester webbing

Specs:

  • Strap dimensions: 2" wide x 10' long
  • Safe working load limit (WLL): 1,100 lbs
  • Maximum load (break strength): 3,300 lbs
  • Quantity: 2 ratchet straps
  • 90-Day limited warranty

Note: Tie-down straps must be chosen according to their safe working load limit (WLL). The weight of the secured cargo must not exceed the combined WLL of the straps being used. For example, if you are using straps with a WLL of 500 lbs each to tie down a load weighing 1,000 lbs, then you need at least 2 straps to safely secure that load. It is recommended that you always use straps in pairs.

Video Transcript for Erickson Retractable, Ratcheting Tie-Down Straps Review

Today, we're going to be taking a look at the Erickson Ratcheting Retractable Strap sold in a quantity of 2. Part number is EM34416. Now, these straps offer 3300-pound brake limit and a safe working load limit of 1100 pounds. These straps are 2 inches wide, and this is the 10-foot long variety. It's made out of a strong weather-resistant polyester, and you see, it has very heavy stitching here at the connection point. We also have very sturdy nylon-coated hooks. They put that nylon coating on there so we won't mar up any of our connection points or anything you might have it hooked to. The durable construction of this Erickson ratchet strap is made of a sturdy corrosion-resistant steel body and a nice thick polyester webbing here on our straps.

It's a very simple ratchet strap to operate. You can see the small tab here. When this tab, which is controlled by the red button is located underneath this tab, it's in the free spool mode. To retract it, we press the red button. Now to lock it in place, we'll move that catch on our ratchet strap in front of those tabs.

That locks it out to where it can't roll forward, releasing any of the strap. The rubber coating here on our handle and on our release are very slip resistant, makes it easy to handle, easy to control no matter what the weather conditions. Now that we've gone over some of the features, let's go ahead and see how it works. We're going to begin by hooking up our fixed side. This is going to be the side that the bolt runs through the loop of the strap, as you can see here, and then with our ratchet lever below that tab, it will just allow us to freely pull out as much strap as we need. Connect it over here into our other point, and then, we'll hit the red button to secure this excess. You can see that tightened it up nicely, and I'll move our lever up here, where we'll begin the ratcheting process to secure it up and get it in place. As you can see, our gear is secure.

Our strap is tight. Now, let's show you how we'll take it off. Erickson uses a patented rapid release method for their straps. Essentially, we'll just press down on the red button, and you'll feel it click out. Then, be depressing the red button, it'll secure our excess strap for us. That's going to complete today's look at the Erickson 10-foot ratchet strap, part number EM34416. .

Haven't used the ratchet straps, Checked them out by hand. My trailer has not been delivered yet. Also bought a trailer brake controller and adaptor. Sales person at e-trailer was very helpful and answered all my questions about if the adapter would fit a 2015 escalade. I didn't know if a new adaptor was available because of all the changes in the 2015 model. Price, delivery and assistance with my order was excellent. Thanks 180565

Im very satisfied with all the purchases Ive made from trailer. The brake controller work perfectly between the truck and trailer. The straps have worked as expected and I have made several trips with my HD Trike In the trailer. It never moved. Just what I was looking for.. Deliveries came when promised. I just recently orders. A spare tire and wheel, took an extra 2 days to get here. We did have 2ft of snow that week, but it was ok, I wasnt going anywhere any way.

Had these for about a year and they are still in great shape. Use them almost weekly picking up riding mowers for repair and service. Really like the recoiling strap type of straps, no worries about the excess strap flapping in the wind or having to wrap it around something to stop the loose end from blowing in the wind. Cost more than the regular, but in my opinion, worth the extra money. Looking for many years of service. 344853

Still working great after another year of service. Might have to replace in another 5-10 years.

I bought these thinking I would need them to tie down a horse drawn buggy, but have used other axle wraps, purchased from you, that work perfectly. I will try to get pictures later as the storage trailer I use to haul it is not here at home. Thanks for the follow up. Niles 462382

Product appears to be very well made. I have not as yet tried them but the straps retract very smoothly. Service from etrailer was excellent and they have a huge sellection to pick from. I wii be using these straps to secure my sise by side and my lawn mowers to the trailer. 372857

Comments

The straps have worked very well and have not worn much after dozens of uses. Highly recommend them.

Used these for holding down building materials on a flatbed trailer. The retraction spring has broken on two of the ratchets. The other two are still working. The straps tend to be on the short side for most loads but sometimes I hook two together to make it work. I would give the product a fair to good rating 308345

Comments

Strap itself are good quality materials. Ratchets are too complex and retractable spring is poorly made and stop working after a short time. If you use them once or twice a year, they probably work fine. However, I am a pro contractor and use straps every day. These ratchet straps lasted 2 weeks then the ratchets stopped working and the retractable feature quit after one week. Not something I would buy again.

The straps loosen during travel. I have hauled motorcycles for 20 years, never having ratchet straps loosen once they were tight, I almost lost a $18000 bike over the side of the trailer because the straps automatic tensioning released itself while I towed. I then set these straps aside to only use for cargo and the same thing happened while I was moving some things. Great idea, poor execution. There needs to be a locking mechanism to prevent the bouncing of the trailer from releasing the tentioner and allowing the straps to go slack. They are now 4 paperweights and I am back to using off the shelf non self retracting ratchet straps. 423090

A major farm supply retailer whom I previously bought spring-loaded cargo straps from every year, discontinued selling Erickson straps, the best for frequent loading and unloading vehicles, due to their spring loaded rapid release. The retailer said the reason was that some people preferred the cheaper ones - which are only initially cheaper but take far longer to connect and disconnect. I told the store manager the straps he sells will cost me 50 times more money in constant wasted time with his junk straps and were almost useless to me. So, I found etrailer online which had exactly what I wanted and had prompt service. Thank you, etrailer. 182943

My experience mounting to kayak trailer: 3 photos Very difficult to remove the stationary strap to use as a fixed device; bolted to the trailer (photos) The spring is very difficult to reinstall when you remove the bolt. Also not enough room to put a wrench on bolt used to mount as a fixed strapping system. I have not used these yet but will post a review at end of the season. They seem well made and sturdy, but I did notice the spring is easily bent when trying to reinstall; not what I expected of a spring that would be properly heat treated. We shall see. 556328

I like the operation of these for securing heavy loads, quick and easy to use, but of the 2 sets that I ordered one failed upon first use. Retraction mechanism did not work. This deserves a double review. Love the Re-Tractable 2" Ratchet Straps. I can carry a few of these in my truck or trailer and they are never a tangled mess like standard ratchet straps. The extra with 2" vs 1" is worth the extra cost. This is a great product. 591731

Wow!! These tiedowns straps are the real deal!! Very high-quality, very heavy duty. But yet, very easy to operate. I will be using these tiedown straps to secure different types of toys. I originally purchased four of these to secure small units of lumber and equipment that I purchase from auctions in Washington to bring to my warehouse in Oregon. The retracting part works perfectly on three of the four and the fourth doesn't retract all the way back anymore, leaving a foot or so of tail out. Still, they have worked very well and have held down some pretty heavy loads. Currently they are holding down a super heavy duty double height wild animal transport cage to the deck of my trailer. The only downside of these retractable straps is the length. Sometimes there is not enough length and I have to hook them together to get over a load. They do save an incredible amount of time as I don't have to de-tangle straps or roll up straps to store for later use. Overall I like the product very well and will get more if these ever fail to hold a load. 499360

This is my third set I've ordered. We have two boats we use them on. Theses straps are the only ones I've found that work perfectly every time. We duck hunt in the cold, and they function perfectly. The only reason I had to order another set is we lost one strap off of the boat while getting in and out while hunting. I would highly recommend them, not just for boats, but they works great strapping items into the truck as well. Easy to use, and very strong. 315700

Easy to use and does a good job securing a load. However, the strap portion is a lighter weight material than I expected. I've broken one strap securing a load with a "sharp" corner. Cut right through the strap like butter. 280474

  • Is there a 10 Foot Long by 2 Inch Wide Retractable Ratchet Strap
  • For a 10 foot by 2 inch strap we have the Highland Retractable Ratchet Strap, # 1154000. It has a 3,300 pound capacity but it is not a bolt on strap.

  • Availability of a Light-Duty Hand Winch for Use in a Cargo Application
  • We do offer lower capacity hand winches that are like the 600-lb-rated Fulton Single Speed Winch FT6000301 that you referenced. Dutton-Lainson offers their single-speed hand winch # DL16003 that includes a 12-foot strap with hook, a handle, and a Tuffplate zinc finish for protection from corrosion. This winch is rated for 400-lbs. An article on winches is linked for reference. If your application is to secure cargo, you will be better served by a few sets of ratcheting tie down straps,...

  • Recommended 15 Foot Long Tie-Down Straps with Bolt and S Hook
  • The longest bolt on strap with hook we have is the Erickson Re-Tractable Ratchet Straps w/ Push Button Releases - 2" x 10' # EM34416. For your 15 foot length you may want to consider using two of the # EM34417 straps and connecting the hooks in the middle. If that won't work for your application, then I recommend using a 15 foot strap like # EM01416 and Let's Go Aero D-Ring Tie-Down Anchors - Bolt On # MMP536.

  • Effect on Hitch Tongue Weight Rating from Use of Hitch Adapter with Motorcycle Carrier
  • You are on the right track in recognizing that use of a hitch extension or adapter changes the forces on the hitch. This in turn changes the hitch's tongue weight (TW) capacity. In the same way that using a cheater bar on the end of a tire iron can give you more leverage to loosen a stubborn lug nut, using a hitch extension like # C45791 or an adapter like # D-192 will let the chosen carrier exert more force on the hitch tube. This is why use of any such item reduces the hitch capacity...

  • Retracted Length of the Erickson Re-Tractable Ratchet Straps # EM34416
  • I went and grabbed a Erickson Re-Tractable Ratchet Straps # EM34416 from our warehouse and with it fully retracted is measured 20-1/2 inches from end to end. Generally when picking out a winch for a boat trailer the ratio is 2 to 1 meaning you would need a winch with roughly half the capacity as the weight of the boat. With good rollers and a short winching distance the ratio increases to 3 to 1, but with long winching distances and wooden bunks like what you currently have the ratio...

  • Options to Allow Use of Hitch-Mount Tandem Bike Rack on 2014 Silverado 2500 with In-Bed Truck Camper
  • Thank you for providing all the pertinent details about your truck/camper set-up. A long hitch reducer/extender such as Curt # C45048 and Reese # RP45292 will give you the reach you need to clear the rear of your truck bed camper and also reduce your receiver opening size from a 2-1/2-inch to the 2-inch size you need for your tandem bike rack. When used at their maximum 34-inch length both the Curt and Reese extenders will have lower weight capacity, 450-lbs, than if cut down to a...

  • Kayak Carrier Recommendation for 2015 F-350 Towing Alpine 5th Wheel 3590
  • Since your truck bed is occupied by your 5th wheel hitch and since there are no 5th-wheel-mount kayaks carriers I suggest you consider the cost-effective option of a foam block type carrier that can sit on your truck's cab. This type of kayak carrier offers the advantages of low weight, low cost and easy installation. Plus it requires no permanent alterations to your truck. The linked page shows all options from SportRack and Swagman. The carrier I recommend is the SportRack Adjustable...

  • Can Ultra-Fab Motorcycle Carrier UF48-979033 Carry 425-lb Bike on 1000-lb Hitch
  • The Ultra-Fab Motorcycle Carrier # UF48-979033 has the capacity for up to a 500-lb motorcycle so it can handle your 425-lbs BMW with some room to spare. Safety margin is always a good thing. Your Curt hitch # C14002 has a very substantial 1000-lb tongue weight (TW) rating so it too provides a healthy safety margin for carrying the 425-lb BMW plus the 50-lb carrier. I suggest a hitch lock # 7683 to secure the carrier to your truck. In terms of stabilizing the carrier and bike I suggest...

  • Will Curt Cargo Carrier 18152 Clear Spare Tire on Jayco RV/Trailer and Hold 300 Pounds
  • First, check your trailer hitch for a sticker that lists the capacity and go by that rating. If there isn't a sticker check the literature for the trailer to see if the capacity is listed. The hitch tongue weight capacity will need to be rated for at least the combined weight of the carrier and the cargo on it. To determine if the Curt cargo carrier # C18152 will clear the spare tire measure from the center of your hitch pin hole out to however far is needed to clear the spare. If that...

  • Options for Carrying 540lb Motorcycle with 2001 Nissan Frontier
  • Although we do offer tray-style motorcycle carriers, the 400-500 lb tongue weight capacity of the hitch, which is the maximum downward force that can safely be applied, would be exceeded by the weight of your bike. This would cause the hitch or its attachment points on the truck to fail while you're transporting the bike, which would be very bad. A small trailer like # K2MMT5X7 would be a good alternative. Or, you could carry the bike in the bed of your truck using a ramp like part #...

  • Measurement Of Retractable Ratchet 34413.
  • I pulled one of these from our warehouse and measured the length when the straps are fully retracted. They measure 12-3/4 inches from the end of one s-hook to the end of the other s-hook. If space is a concern the strap can be folded, putting the s-hooks under the ratchet. The measurement with the s-hooks folded under the ratchet is approximately 5-1/2 inches. This retractable ratchet has a working load limit (WLL) of 500 lbs. If you will be working with a load greater than 500 lbs,...

  • Self-Retracting Ratcheting Tie-Down Straps
  • Yes, we do have self-retracting ratcheting tie-down straps. The CargoBuckle G3 Retractable Ratchet Straps w/ S-Hooks # IMF18800-86 are 2" wide x 6' long and have a working load limit of 833 lbs. The weight of your motorcycle must not exceed the combined working load limit of the straps so these would work if your bike was no more than 833 lbs. Another option is the Erickson Re-Tractable Ratchet Straps w/ Push Button Releases # EM34416 that are 2" wide x 10' long and have a working...

  • Winch to Use for Vertical Lifting Application
  • ProGrip XRT Rope Lock Tie-Down # 317-404400 is intended for use to secure cargo items. It is not really intended for use as a hoist to lift and hold heavy items overhead. Although four of these would have plenty of weight capacity it might be tough to operate all of them at once. A safer and better solution is a worm gear winch like # DL11011 which is designed for vertical lifting applications. With it you can use 25-foot cable # DL24100 for a 1400-lb lifting system that will hold the...
