Hassle-Free Installation
Each JetStream crossbar has a bottom channel that allows you to mount it to any of the Yakima StreamLine towers - BaseLine, RidgeLine, SkyLine, or TimberLine. The rubber strip in the channel can be cut down to the exact size needed for installation and then re-installed in the channel. This helps keep dirt out of the bar and reduces wind noise.
Etched measurements along the bottom channel help you center the bar on your roof. Simply use the ruler on each end of the bar to ensure the towers are spaced properly in the channel.
Once you have the correct measurements, install the brackets in the bottom channel, set the bar on top of your towers, and tighten it in place with the torque tool (included with your towers).

I chose Yakima because I had one in the past and they were always reliable. Thule was my next choice but didn’t like the look of 53’ crossbars on my car. I really appreciated the easy to follow instruction that made installation a breeze. The kit came complete with everything I needed to install right out of the box. I purchased the 2 Hightower bike racks to go with the roof rack system and plan to safely secure both bikes for our trips. It was a bit heavier than I anticipated (combined with the bike carriers) which will hurt my MPG but having easy access to disassemble the bike carriers when not in use made it a no brained. The installation was super easy, and despite a long time stuck in shipping the delivery itself was extremely fast, and the package arrived in spotless condition. The manuals were very easy to follow, and the end result is absolutely amazing. Works just like the old towers except they pivot to give a snugger fit on the truck, which makes this tower fit easier and less likely to come loose or break like the other towers. Also it is nice to have a rack on the front of the cab for long items, like full size canoe, that would be too long and need the extra length to fit. I have a way for you to use longer crossbars for a roof rack on your 2011 BMW 3 Series but since the Thule crossbars have a limiting slot on the underside we need to use a different brand roof rack system and for that I recommend Yakima as they're the only ones with a slot all the way through so you can literally fit any crossbar length.

I spoke with a contact at Thule, and they said that no roof rack is completely parallel with the ground. However, there are a few things you can do to ensure the tent is level. Most of these tricks are used by RVers for leveling their trailers.

I have a solution for you to use longer bars, but the Thule WingBar Evo crossbars only have a limited amount of space for the T-Slot on the underside where they connect to the legs and there isn't enough space for you to go with longer bars. So instead I recommend going with the Yakima JetStream system as the T-Slot on the underside for this system runs the length of the crossbar so there is no limiting factor.

Yakima recently discontinued their Q-Tower roof racks which means their Q clips are gone as well. You would need the Q7 clips part number 8000607 but they are not available anymore.
