Expert Answers about Dump Trailer Parts

  • Powering Hydraulic Dump on Dump Trailer
  • If you are looking for something to power the dump on your dump trailer, I highly recommend an independent battery specifically for powering the dump trailer. We have a few different options for charging the battery on the dump trailer. Powering the dump off of the vehicle battery may put too much draw on the vehicle battery. One way you could charge the battery to power the dump trailer is using a NOCO Genius Battery Charger and Maintainer # 329-GENIUS5. This battery charger maintains...

  • Can Drop Down/Swing Down Stabilizer Jacks Be Used On a Dump Trailer
  • I do have an option for you but drop down/swing down stabilizer jacks like part # AR94FR aren't really designed for dump trailers, in order to properly support the weight of a dump trailer you will need to use drop leg jacks on the corners like the Fulton Drop-Leg Stabilizer Jack with Mounting Channel part # FSJ1-SJ2 which is what I recommend.

  • Could Winch Wiring Kit be Used to Charge Dump Trailer Battery
  • To actually put a decent charge on your battery throughout the day the answer is a heavier gauge charge wire like what the part # BDW20207 has. This will carry enough amperage to put a solid charge on the battery between dumps. Normally this kit is used to power a winch but in your case it would work well. I would run this to the battery and not the pump. If I were you I wouldn't want the alternator of my vehicle powering a dump trailer. So running this to the battery allows the battery...

  • Wiring Needed to Power Dump Trailer Directly From Truck Battery
  • It sounds to me like you are wanting to power the dump trailer directly from your trucks battery. If this is the case you will want to start by making sure that the power draw for the lift would not overload the truck. If all looks good, you could use part # BDW20207 which is typically used to wire electric winches but would also work for this type of set-up. The trailer and vehicle wiring kit includes 24 feet of 2 gauge double wire with quick connections. I've attached a video to assist. If...

  • Can Strait Line Weight Distribution System Be Used on Dump Trailer that Weighs Around 10k
  • People do use weight distribution systems on dump trailers so I am confident someone has used the Strait Line kit part # RP66073 with one. You'd just need to make sure the trailer a-frame channels are less than 2-1/2 inches. As long as the tongue weight of the trailer falls within the range of the system which in this case is 400-800 this kit would be fine. But if the dump trailer was between 10-12k you'd need a higher rated since the tongue weight is going to be higher. The part # RP66083...

  • Wiring Kit Recommendation for Dump Trailer for Charging Battery
  • Dump trailer batteries are often very large deep cell batteries that take a pretty decent amount of amperage to charge. The 12 volt accessory circuit of your 7-way really isn't going to be able to put a solid charge on the battery. It will help maintain it but if you are looking for something to bring back the battery after operating the dump enough times that it starts moving slow there isn't a way to do that through the 7-way. You could use a winch wiring kit like part # BDW20307 or...

  • Trailer Hitch for a 2016 Ford F-550 Cab and Chassis with Dump Body
  • The Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # C15845 that you referenced is a confirmed fit for a 2016 Ford F-550 cab and chassis with frame rails spaced 34" apart (outside to outside). However, Curt does not test this trailer hitch with dump body trucks nor are all dump bodies the same so I would not be able to confirm fit 100%. However, the distance from the mounting flange on the trailer hitch to the top of the receiver tube is around 6" which you should be able to use in addition to the frame...

  • What you are going to need is the 7-way socket and lead part number # PK11898 which comes with the wiring you'd need to tap into your trailer wiring as well as a bracket to mount the 7-way. You'd wire the 7-way to your trailer wiring using the following as a guide for what the 7-way has: Red - Left Turn and Stop - 14 gauge White - Ground - 10 gauge Blue - Electric Brakes - 12 gauge Green - Right Turn and Stop - 14 gauge Black - Battery - 12 gauge Brown - Running Lamps - 14 gauge Yellow...

  • Correct Replacement Braking Assemblies for 2008 PJ 12,000 Lb Dump Trailer
  • In order to choose the correct replacement braking assemblies for a 2008 PJ Dump Trailer you'll need to know the axle capacity. It looks like most trailers of this size have anywhere from a 5,200 lb to 7,000 lb axle and in which case you'd need to use the Electric Trailer Brake Kit part # AKEBRK-7-SA.

  • How To Install a Brake Controller On a Dump Truck
  • In order to install a brake controller on a dump truck you'd first need to start with a 4-way trailer connector and then adapt this to a 7-way so you can hook up a brake controller. I won't have much info for anyone particular dump truck but I can pretty confidently say none are going to have a plug-in-play option. It's also important to note this setup is for models with a 12 volt system. I have attached my recommend parts below. Upgraded Circuit Protected Tail Light Converter Hardwire...

  • Blue Ox Weight Distribution System for Kaufman Dump Trailer that Has Rating of up to 10k lb
  • Assuming your dump trailer would be near it's gross trailer weight of 10,000 lbs the higher rated Blue Ox TrackPro part # BLU35FR would be the better option as it has a tongue weight range of 1,000-1,300 lbs. But with dump trailers it can be challenging to use a weight distribution system since the way the system is setup is based completely on the tongue weight of the trailer and dump trailers have this figure vary quite a bit. You most likely will find that you'll have to have the bars...

  • Are The Dump Door Hinges Strong Enough To Support a Dump Tailgate Converted To Barn Style Door?
  • The Dump Door Hinge # PLR1904-Z was specifically designed for heavy duty dump trailers. The mounting bracket is manufactured from 1/4" steel and the 1/2" pin can handle a lot of weight. While the manufacturer does not give a particular weight capacity due to the length of the door having as much of an effect as the weight, you would want to make sure to use a reasonable amount of hinges on your doors. Obviously a 4' tall door would need more than just 2 hinges to properly support the weight...

  • Replacement Bearing Cover Options for Bri-Mar Dump Trailer
  • You will need one of two sizes depending on the axle capacity of your Bri-Mar dump trailer. If you have 7,000 lbs or 8,000 lbs axles, then you will need part # 21-43-1 and # DC-RP if you have EZ Lube spindles (grease zerk on the end) or you can use part # RG04-100 if you have standard spindles. If you have 5,200 lbs or 6,000 lbs axles, then you will want part # RG04-080 if you have EZ Lube spindles or part # RG04-060 if you have standard spindles.

  • Solar Panel Charger that Could Keep Dump Trailer Battery Topped Off
  • The 2.5-Watt Solar Battery Charger # PTW2997 is capable of putting out a 2.5 watt charge at it's peak which would help keep a battery alive if left in storage but would not probably recharge a dead battery in use on a dump trailer. A 90 watt solar charger like part # 34282729 would do a better job.
