Video Transcript for Winner International Wheel Club Lock Review

Today were going to review the Wheel Club part number WI490. Were going to start off our review by installing it on our trailer wheel very easy to do. Well go ahead and take the red part of the Wheel Club and put it on one side of the tire. Well spread apart as far as possible and push it towards the center. Then well take the silver part and well go ahead and slide it from the other side of the tire and into the slot and through the lock. Well push as far as we can together and then well push down on lock cylinder to lock it into place.

Then well go ahead and put the cover in. Thats all it takes to install the Wheel Club and lets go over some features and some specs. First off, this is made from weather resistant galvanized steel. As you can see here, its easy to use and also provides a very visible theft deterrent. Now the key lock also has a weather guard to help protect it from the elements.

The Wheel Club is designed to work with rim sizes from 13 inches to 16 inches. Or this will work with tire diameters of up to 20 inches and 9 inches wide. Also, when its not being used you can see how it folds flat. Now well go ahead and show you how the wheel lock works. You can see how we having pushed down our wheel cylinder and see the pin go through.

So when the silver part is pushed through it goes through one of the openings and then locks it in place so it cannot be removed. With that, that will finish it for our review of part number WI490 the Wheel Club.

One of the best wheel lock for the money. It locks and chocks the wheel. Quick to install & remove. For added security got the lug nut locks with the knowledge that extra keys can be order in the future. 230281

This looked to be the best value for the money. Keep in mind that this is only a deterrent. It would not take much to cut it off. While made of steel it is only tubing and not solid pieces. 327735

Sometimes the locking device goes on and I am able to easily engage the lock. Other times I struggle for several minutes trying to get it engaged. Other wise no problems.

I am very happy with my wheel club. I am very aware that you can't stop a thief but you can make it difficult for them. The wheel club is very visible and says if you want this trailer you have to work for it. I have also ordered the steal shield for the hitch and have installed an alarm on my trailer. I sleep a lot better at night 149299

- WI490
by:

This wheel lock is supposed to fit tires up to 28 inches in diameter and 9 inches wide which the tires on my trailer are. I cannot get the lock to work unless I put another hole in the chrome part. When Rebecca checked with the manufacturer she was told that the hub was probably in the way. This is not the case and I hope drilling another hole will solve the problem. I am rating it as good since it doesn't fit my tire as advertised. 155842

- WI490
by:

Product design was very good. Product parts were not appropriate for my trailer wheel. My tire had a thickness of 5 inches. To fit appropriately a wheel needs to be 9 inches wide. I added an adjustment fix that worked. I hope. It would be nice to be able to purchase a stronger wheel lock. See picture for my "fix" Ray 411858

AS IT IS ONLY A DETERRANT FROM A THIEF THE CENTER PLATE COULD BE BIGGER TO AT LEAST COVER THE LUG NUTS,OTHER THAN THAT ITS ON MY TRAILER AND HOPING THIS ONE WONT GET STOLEN.. 160086

I just installed the wheel club onto my motorcycle trailer. It seems like it will work out very nicely; most lug-nuts are covered (to help prevent wheel removal), which is a very nice feature. 144098

This product is excellent. Easy to install, and easy to remove. It feels and looks tough. Once again, I now have a wheel lock on both wheels of my trailer and feel that my cargo trailer is much more secure. The product is great and the service was great. Thank you. 48471

The product is a little tricky to line up the lock holes on install and difficult to remove the lock arm on disassembly. Otherwise, I think the unit will do a good job. 36590

Etrailer is an excellent company to deal with, fast service, fair prices. The Wheel Club leaves one feeling as though he has just ate a good dinner at a nice restaurant, but was not offered any desert or coffee after the meal... All of the companies offering this type of device say you need a plate to cover the lug nuts to prevent removal of the wheel. The plate on this device is too small to be of any use. I was easily able to undo all lugs with a standard craftsman 1/2" drive socket. They need to make the plate big enough to obscure the lugs, this would not add to the cost. The lock itself should be welded to the device. I can't see how it is attached, but I would bet that it is only pressesd in. This device is OK, however I will weld on a bigger plate even if it voids the warranty. I knew it was merely a detterent for theft, but the small plate and light duty lock are elementary at best. I saw this in the add for the product, and yes, I bought it, it will deter a stupid thief, and most are stupid, so I guess I will use it, and just keep a close eye on the trailer. 25740

The Club Trailer Wheel Lock We found the Club easy to install. The quality appears to be excellent. We would recommend it for anyone to have peace of mind that their trailer isn't being "borrowed" while you have it in storage. 4884

Do you have a question about this Wheel Lock?

  • Locking a Trailer that has a Reese Goose Box Adapter/Coupler
  • The design of the Reese Goose Box adapters, such as # RP94716, prohibits the use of locks designed for standard gooseneck couplers. They cannot grab onto the coupler like they are supposed to. To secure the trailer a wheel lock such as # WI490 or # RA-25 or something similar is recommended instead. I have linked some videos on these locks for you.

  • Locking a Trailer that Uses Atwood Flat Nose Trailer Coupler 75074
  • What I recommend to keep someone from stealing your parked trailer is a wheel lock such as # RA-25 or a model that also covers the lug nuts such as # WI490. Usually the mere presence of a lock will cause a would-be thief to move on to another target. Coupler locks do not really work with coupler 75074 due to the unique design of the coupler.

  • Why Cant a Regular Gooseneck Coupler Lock be Used on a Reese Goose Box Adapter
  • The Reese Goose Box adapters such as # RP94716 don't have a straight down-tube like a traditional gooseneck coupler so the locks for regular gooseneck couplers, such as # BLTL-53-40D2, will not work. They cannot grab onto the coupler like they are supposed to. To secure the trailer a wheel lock such as # WI490 or # RA-25 or something similar is recommended instead. • The Wheel Club - Tire and Wheel Lock # WI490 will fit 13" - 16" wheels that have tires that are up to 28" in diameter and 9" in width. From the research that I did it looks like you might have 17" wheels on your 2010 Maxda CX-7 which means that the Tire and Wheel Lock would not be compatible. If you let me know what the size the tire on your CX-7 is, it will be found on the sidewall and look like 225/75-15, then I can confirm whether it fits or not. If you do have 17" tires then you...

This lock actually will fit 1-7/8, 2, and 2-5/16 inch couplers. It features a pick-resistant lock cylinder and dual-action, bolt-blocked locking system that locks both arms instead of just one. • Trailer Coupler and Wheel Locks to Deter Trailer Theft
  • master Lock trailer coupler lock # ML389DAT would be a bit more secure than lock # 377DAT in my opinion because it would be a little more difficult to pry off. When it comes to locks the best solution is redundancy. In other words more than one lock. You may want to consider also adding a wheel lock such as # RA-25 or # WI490. If a thief sees a coupler lock and a wheel lock they are likely going to move on to an easier target.

  • Do Trailers have Common Wheel Lug Nut Sizes for a Wheel Lock
  • There are common lug nut sizes found on trailers: 7/16, 1/2, 9/16, and 5/8 but the most common is 1/2 inch. If you can tell me the trailer weight capacity and wheel size/bolt pattern I can verify if they are likely to be 1/2 inch or another size. If they are 1/2 inch we have wheel lock # RG01-150. Another option is a lock such as # WI490. With it the lug nut size won't matter. I have linked a video of this lock and included a link to the wheel locks we carry.

  • The Rack'em Manufacturing Lock'em Magnum Wheel Lock # RA-25 that you referenced could possibly work on a dually trailer wheel setup, but depending on how much clearance you have between your tires it could be tight. For a better fitting option I would go with the Wheel Club part # WI490.

  • Way to Lock 5x8 Utility Trailer
  • I prefer wheel locks over coupler locks for trailers as they are harder to defeat and offer a more visible lock from a distance. I really like the Wheel Club part # WI490. As one of our customers put it, "The wheel club is very visible and says if you want this trailer you have to work for it." It prevents the wheel from rolling as well as would make it very difficult to remove the wheel if you wanted to. I attached an install video for you to check out as well.
